Seve Lomax Jump Cues...

So I'm at the US Open talking to a friend Danial (Ktown) who is telling me about Steves jump cues while we are sweating Shannon Daulton play a match, were all sitting in the front row. We all know each other and are friends, Marge is there, Danial's dad(great guy), Shannon is playing hard-he was pumped up.

Few games into the set he rolls a little long and Danial and I were talking about jump cues seconds BEFORE Shannon gets behind a ball, Danial was telling me how good Steves Jump cues are-right then Shannon got funny, grabbed the jump cue(one of Steves) fires the ball in, walks over to set it down and Said "Lomax builds the best jump ever" It sounded like a eccho because Danial said it at the same time, Shannon didnt hear him, we laughed as it was a funny coincedence, It had my attention, so I asked Danial if he could order me one, I dont know Steve, he does-he said "sure be glad to hook you up". So I paid for it right there on the rail. I knew it was gonna be good.

A few days ago the jump cue shows up here. Now this is the first jump cue I ever owned, I have had J/B cues but never a jump cue, I suck at jump cues. I can get over the ball and make a hit but thats about it but never accurately, I took it out and was amazed at how good it feels, I was impressed, jumping easilly but it felt just right.

So today Mike Massey is here playing me and a friend for about 3 or 4 hurs, just being social enjoying pool, showing some shots, playing races, banks, 1P, 14.1 etc. Just a great day, anyways in a game(I wasnt playing the set) he needed a jump cue, I said "I just got a new one I like it, but dont know a whole lot about them-it seems great, give it a try".

Mike makes his shot with it-gets shape, who he is playing(another champion-or real close to it) was sounding like Earl (and I mean that with respect-I like Earl-but Earl complains about jump cues, so was my friend after mike split the pocket with it), it was funny to hear him complain. Mikes eyes got big and said "Thats one heck of a jump cue". He used it 5 or 6 more times and loved it.

Now I'm playing him an hour later and a jump shot came up, I dont know much about using them but who better to get jumping lessions from??? Than Mike?? WOW I felt like I was cheating it was so easy. He taught me alot about how to use it. I asked him "is this a good jump cue?" I knew it was from my point of view, but his opinion is important to me. Mike said "thats as good of a jump cue as I've ever used".

I offered to give it to him, he said he has too many of them as it is, and for me to keep using it. I will and practice what I learned today.

It was a great day for sure, and thanks to Steve Lomax for the cue.

Hope you enjoyed this story like I enjoyed today

best regards

Wow if Mike Massey says it's good then it must be good.

Did ya ever find a keno board. I still haven't seen any of those old farts that had the one I told ya about.....not even sure if they're still alive.

no keno board, I cant stand it:mad: . I really want one:smile: , not with the metal ramp those are junky, there is a cue maker who had GREAT ones on his site but he never replie to 2 emails, there wasnt a phone number on his site.

Mike is such a great guy, I never met him but of course knew alot about him. He is just what I expected, nice in a million ways, and man does he ever love pool, i mean I dont know if its possible to love pool more than him, he loves his shots, showed me a new one he just invented, I made it too. he uses a 61" cue-still kinda short for him

If ya want one that bad the only thing I can say is to order the one with the metal ramp and find a wood worker to reproduce it with a wood ramp. I also noticed that it had rubber bumpers so it wouldn't go into the corner pockets which is wrong too. The one I used to play on had a wood ramp and we had inserts for the pockets which made it like a billiard table.

I can tell Mike just loves to play pool......it just seems like he loves being at the table.

I've known Steve for a long time. He actually put the dance floor down in our old pool hall/sports bar about 9 years ago. He is from the same home town I lived in all of my life.

Great guy and makes great cues.

I am glad you like the jumper buddy. Get a little practice in using it because when we play at Derby I am gonna lock you up so many times you are gonna feel like an inmate.

Steve posts here, if anyone wants to shoot him a PM his user name is SteveL. He will be very busy for the next few weeks, he and Joe Blackburn are doing repairs at Derby, but I am sure he will be happy to answer any questions.

steve lomax is one of the nicest guys you want to meet / deal with. he has done all the work on my cues (tips, ferrules, wraps, joint collar replacement) since i moved to georgia and has always been fast and done great work. he also makes a beautiful cue that jumps like a beast. he shoots in the same place i do on tuesday nights and as soon as my shooter is in my hands from dick neighbors my order is going to steve for my jump / break.

Wow

I keep hearing how great his jump cues are. I spoke at length with Steve in Vegas last year and he told me to ask Stevie Moore about them. I saw Stevie just a day later and said, "heard you like the Lomax jump cue" and he raved about it!

I can't wait to get one!

SteveL- remember, I can do a website for ya!

Hey Steve,
I will see you at Derby City. I want to finalize my order with you up there.

Steve is a great cue man and my friend. He does all my cue work. Steve modified my Mace break jump a while back. New ferrel, new joint, stack leather wrap. Looks,Breaks and jumps great. Although his shop is 45 miles from me , I gladly drive there. His jump cues are the nuts.
