Shaft made from pear wood?

I have been starting to dabble a little in snooker and picked up an older snooker cue made from pear wood. I really like how it hits and feels.

That got me to wondering if any one heard of or tried a shaft made from pear wood.

Any input or thoughts?

Thanks
Randy

I have made butts for mini cues out of Pear. Most of the wood I have turned resembled Pink Ivory in color and texture. It might make a decent shaft if it is stable and clear.

Bill Oliver, a British snooker pro from the 80s, swore by pear wood.
I hit some balls with it...felt better than the ash most of them used.

I once had a pair of cues but never a cue of pears.

PS You're slipping pt, so I filled in for ya there. You're welcome.

Hello. :)

I have a snooker cue crafted from pear wood (with an ebony butt). To my mind it has very similar playing properties and appearance to maple.

Best wishes,
RC.
