Shaft wax / sealant

I have more info, thanks

Here's a golden oldie-mix few drops of new motor oil, and baby powder (table spoon). spin shaft ,burnish into shaft. becareful it gets hot fast( The oil finnishes have superior feel and a differen't tone coming from the cue. just thought I'd add something from the past. Thanks Richard, george, and gus. my 02.cents mark

I like my shafts dirty. The more I get it blue along with the natural oils on my hands, the smoother the shafts get for me. Of course I wipe down my shafts, but I don't "clean " it.

Occasionally you'll get lucky and find it stocked in a hardware store....most often NOT though. Easier to just Google it & order online & have it shipped to your doorstep. True...with shipping charges you'll end up paying double....but with gas prices you could very quickly spend more. I wouldn't worry about the extra shipping charge....remember....one can will last you a lifetime. There are other waxes that many will try to convince you are the same or better....not so much....hold out for the real deal in the white & orange can.;)

I just bought some.

Ace Hardware has the Butcher Bowling Alley Wax for $7.49 for a 1lb can.
Yep, that's the price if you buy it in the store. Just called the local Ace, and they have it in stock. :D I've never really used wax, only slipstic, cue silk, and Qglide type stuff, but you guys have inspired me. I'm going out to buy mine in a little bit.

soft scrub, with bleach. It accually works better than magic Erasier. And you just buff after it's dry. Don't use too much, apply to damp sponge, spin shaft or just hand rub. (this tip is worth gold but I will settle for a green square.) I have at least 50 shafts that are as smooth, clean, and waxed- and yes like magic eraser it sayes don't use on wood -go figure. It must be cleaned before waxing and sealing. the juice works great(shellac and thinner). thanks mark
I have to agree with this guy about the Soft Scrub w/bleach. I got the mountain breeze scented one and it works great! Not as abrasive as one might think, leaves behind those little crystals just as the Magic Eraser does. Make sure you're wearing some old clothes though before working with it because it really does contain bleach, and any little spills will discolor your clothing. Found this out the hard way when I got it on my joggers. :p But yeah, I had been using the Magic Erasers prior to a buddy of mine telling me about the Soft Scrub, and they both work equally, and amazingly well, but I would say you get a TON more applications for the price with the Soft Scrub (not that you're going to be doing this type of heavy duty cleaning all that often, unless you encounter a really dirty cue). Overall I would say the Soft Scrub cleans slightly better as well.

Order from Ace

My local Ace didn't carry it but they ordered it and it ships for free. It will be at my store Thursday AM. Ask and they will order it for you.

Wow!

Just tried the Butcher's on a couple shafts, and all I can say is OMG! You guys were not kidding! That stuff is slick! Applied with cloth, buffed with terry cloth, then burnished with leather, and holy cow! Looks like it should provide some good protection as well. Reminds me of this one time when I was in boot camp and officer Simms caught me writing a letter home when I wasn't supposed to be and I tried to slide it under my bunk real quickly. He then said to me, "you're about as slick as geese shit"! Anyways thanks, this was a great tip, and product.

Thanks for the tip. I just ordered some from ebay buy it now for 6.25 + 6.00 S + H. I'll give it a try.

Just ordered...before reading this post and paid $5 more!!@#

If it works, I could care less.

And if Varney says it works, I'm quite sure it will.

Hi,

the Butcher's sounds interesting, but it's a national product which is not obtainable in other countries, especially not in europe.

Is there any description of the ingredients so I might have a look for something similar in Germany?

I use Johnson's furniture polish with bee's wax till now, but it needs to be rebuffed after some hours...

Regards,

Detlev

There is a water based sealer and it is spectacular ...Compliant Spray Systems - Enduro Poly ... this stuff dries in minutes ... i use it to level and seal the cue before finishing and also to seal the shafts ... If you play everyday you can sand and recoat every year and a half or so ... Has indefinite shelf life too ... I think Arnot uses it and I know WilleeCue uses it ... It's expensive but far superior to anything else I've used ...

To the guy that mentioned 'Black Magic', that's a product to shine up black plastic trim on cars. Its not a carnuba wax product!

I have a can of Kit Car Wax. Can says it is non-abrasive and safe for clear coats. Also says it is the #1 selling carnauba wax worldwide. After reading this thread I put some on my cue shaft and found that it does a great job. The can says that one application should last a year on the car. Maybe it is worth a look in your garage, you too may already have carnauba wax

Butcher's Bowling Alley Wax.....works wonderful. Hard to find at the hardware stores....just Google it & you'll find many vendors. It cleans & seals nicely & works well by hand for those without a lathe. Its a clear paste wax. If used often...it'll keep the chalk blue off your shaft and seal the pores....and make your shafts smooth as butter. Just put a generous amount on a soft clean rag and rub until the shaft starts to get warm....then buff with another clean rag. Trust me...you'll have the slickest shaft in your poolroom.;) I pretty much use it every time after I play. Everyone who hits a ball with my cue always ask how I get my shafts so slick.:)

Varney-- I just ordered some of this stuff. I look forward to trying it. Thanks for the recommendation.

I found it here for $11.99 for those interested as well:
