I love my schon with the original (harder than diamond) tip!!!

Searing!

Don't have one myself but I've shot around a bit with one and would love to have him make a shaft for my playing cue.

Searings shafts are my choice. Stiffer hit. Excellent wood. Best taper with deflection close to 314.

With all the cuemakers out there, how on earth could you get any kind of answer on this?? VERY few people have hit even the majority of cues available today.

I've had a ton of great hitting cues with VERY similar build and shafts...in no particular order...

Black Boar
Schon
Richard Black
Phillippe
Joss

my player right now is a sweet hitting Schon. I've had about 10 people walk up and ask what I'm playing with after "hearing" the hit.

Gerry

I like my Southwest with yellow micarta's hit; I also had a James White with ivory ferrule that I really regret selling.
I like the hit of Tad's shaft, I consider them the best shaft.
I also like the Mike Capone and Keith Josey taper.
Ross recently showed me his Searing shaft and it is awesome...
Actually, I am not sure what the question was, but anyway...

Tad is the best in my opinion. I just got two posts somehow - see the next one for an explanation.

Ps. Here are some reasons, they do a lot of things to make them the best, but the old, high quality wood and years of seasoning it in mild Southern California climate are a good start. They don't cut shafts in the winter and they cut them very slowly, a little at a time. Their taper is just right.

I also like Samsara shafts. I think they do a good job too but Tad is my favorite.

Pss. I still play with a Predator.

i play with a gibert but i think nobody makes a shaft with cleaner wood than keith josey bar none. he also is making "timeless timber" shafts which are made from the wood that was found at the bottom of lake michigan and beleived to be in the neighborhood of 500 years old. it does show some growth marks (grainy) and is also darker(almost a brownish, pinkish color) but my buddy who is a very good player just got one of these shafts along with his new josey playing cue and says it plays stiffer with less deflection than anything he has ever hit with and he immediatly called keith back and ordered another one to put up. but againn if you are looking for pure snow white maple shaft wood, no one does it better than keith josey.

If you can afford $250 to $600 per shaft, Prodigy by Ronnie Powell

is the best in the World, I have 3 of his cues, 1 is old growth with 45 GPI and low defelection and 2 are Old Growth from the great lakes they are 150 year old sunken trees that are 650 years old and have 50 GPI and are low deflection and are 12.3mm and within .1 ounces of each other. You can do anything with these shafts I have broken, jumped and shot with these 4 to 6 days a week for 9 years and have never had a shaft warp or have any taper roll. If you can afford a $1,000 dollar cue then invest in the parts that make a difference in the game, ie. shafts, ferrule and tips, these are the most important components, not the butt.

Good luck and Best of Health
