Shane .V.B vs Nick. (The Greek) Ekonomopoulos

According to AZB...over the past 5 years (+ 2014), SVB has earned nearly 785K in winnings, and NE has earned 70K.

Even according to the Sixpockets.de site, NE is ranked 67th to SVB's first and has less than 10% of SVB's ranking points.

Why is this match even remotely compelling?

I get it that it's on Nick's home turf and it targets one of SVB's perceived weaknesses (playing abroad); and certainly these factors make the match more interesting. I've seen NE play before - I think during Mosconi cup a few years ago - and he's a great player. Top 100 in the world...definitely. Top 5, 10? I just can't get there.

Unless the guy's been purposely staying under the radar, sandbagging the tourneys, and robbing people gambling...what am I missing? how is this match even remotely compelling?

A discussion/debate about money-lists and rankings could be endless.

It is not easy to say when and for whom they are good indicators and when misleading.

Since we talk about Nick E. lets take him for example:

AZB moneylist
Of all the tournaments tracked by AZB in 2014, he has entered exactly one (eurotour)

The moneylist is additive, so its value is limited when comparing two players with a gap
that can be as big as 100++ tournaments in a few years span.

sixpockets.de
Of all the tournaments tracked by sixpockets in 2014, he has entered exactly two (eurotour and insomnia 10b)
He is 67th, Shane is 1st, Ga Young Kim 11th, Jasmin 14th, Allison 15th, Caroline Roos 48th, Wu is 46...Mellind & Strickland 52th, Gabica and Lining 90, JasonKlatt 99, YangChinSun 109, LoLiWen and Nauyoki Oi 165....

WPA rankings
He is 6th with 11700 pts if I am not mistaken, having entered 4/6 of the tournaments
Shane is 8th with 10400 pts but entered one less, 3/6

What is the value of all these lists if not correctly weighted/averaged?
Ronnie O' Sullivan is 33th in rankings, 6th in moneylist..., #1 in reality..

I enjoy those as much as anyone but they are just what they are.

I completely agree. There have been a lot of arguments for this player is better than that player, based on WPA rankings, or AZB money list etc. These really don`t tell you that much when the lists are incomplete, and take into account only a small number of events that not all of the players enter. I know the AZB money list misses even most of the tournaments in Canada, even though some of the 1st place prizes are in the thousands. I`m sure they miss a lot of the European tournies too, nevermind Asia.

I think a better judge of who is better is to look at the ``body of work`` the players have assembled over many years, as well as head-to-head matchups of any meaningful length.

Final racks of SVB v D.Jungo in Europe, 9b race to 50 for $5k

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRenyZgSMVg

Nice find, sir...it was certainly tense at 49/49.
I think Jungo should've pushed on the last break instead of jumping.

The table, I believe, is a Soren Sogard, very well built with 1.5 inch slate.
It met with player resistance in North America because they used three-
cushion rubber, which comes straight out at the top instead of forming
a wedge shape.

So Shane handled a different playing table and won a nail-biter.

Ok...to make things simpler, can you just list NE's major tournament wins/finishes in the past few years? Thanks.

Here is what I know:

Nick invited Shane to Greece to play in his tournament and promised him a challenge match for 5,000 Euros.

Shane texted me and said do you want to go to Greece and I said sure!

Shane is getting to Greece on the 22nd and will be playing in Nick's tournament and will be playing the challenge match on the 28th.

Nick wanted to play 10ball, winner breaks, magic rack and Shane and I said sure.

I am going to be looking for more action before the match and would be willing to bet MUCH more if anyone is interested.

This isn't an exhibition, it is a challenge match where at least one of the players are being staked. I know Shane would of put up his own money to play the match but he was being nice to me and let me have the bet.

Nick is a complete gentleman, I have talked to him over facebook and I look forward to meeting him in person.

Shane and I will be seeing the sites in Greece, we have set aside time to see this beautiful country.

That is all I know!

That sounds really rough! I hope you guys can tough it out over there:grin:

If Shane wants to come to Holland and play some $ 100 sets spotting me like
the 4-out we can get down, he can make an extra 2-300 easy!

Seriously though, I have met Nick once and he is a very nice person. It is great
to know for sure this is not just some exhibition (with Shane being involved everyone
should know this allready).

gr. Dave

PM sent. Message me back so its set in stone. Money is ready now

We'll my friend if you need to know,I was out for a few hours begging for the money good news I managed to collect $5000, you told me how it works in the PM you make it sound very simple we'll is not simple to me You don't know me and I don't know you,the bet is fairly high might be illegal and I'm not taking any chances. Also I will like to keep our dealings private, and if we can somehow arrange to make this wager happen in a safe winner gets paid no matter what way, and I refuse to post the cash you can publicly call me whatever you want

You my friend corvette have action w/ me for what ever you want, obviously you wear the SVB blinders too, wake up there are players in the rest of the world who are just as good or better than Shane what has Shane, achieved outside the friendly confines of the USA

Ok, $10,000? We can escrow/post with Jay Helfert?

If he actually posts let me know and i will buy half your action if you want to sell some.

I understand that some may want this private, but I believe we are all interested if any bet was made. I am more than happy to facilitate the posted money if that helps. If you want to keep it private feel free to PM. I would also like to bet on this myself ALOT.

I think there is a more appropriate place for this sort of thing, but dont see any action there.

So where is the line on these 2. I would bet SVB giving up 4 games, so if the Greek gets to 46 you win. Nothing huge...how about 200? PM me if you want action.

Those tables in Athens look to play real easy, I saw most everybody on the tournament stream running out on their alternating breaks. I think somebody will get horse #%!ked in the race to 50.

Svb nick match

Anyone know how and what the cost is to get this match on live stream thanks.

I googled and found this:

http://greekpool.com/category/tournaments/

I did not see any mention of "PPV or Free".

The Greeks have given us a lot of things for free....
Philosophy....free
Drama...free
The Iliad....free
Thousands of words that have enriched our language....free
Live videos...free
http://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j...=bK2AEIYrlMbF8T3OxiwCqQ&bvm=bv.65397613,d.b2I

And now they're giving us action....'course if Shane plays untypically
poorly, there will be a small charge.

pt....loves spanakopita and tiropita...always has to pay

Looking forward to this
http://greekpool.com/nick-ekonomopoulos-vs-shane-van-boening-10-ball-challenge-2/
It says they start 7pm East Europe time. My guess is SVB will win by 10 to 15 racks. Assuming 10 racks win i.e. 50-40 that is 90 racks. 10b on slower cloth so maybe 7 min per rack ? so 10.5 hours. It says they are playing 1 day 28April only so that means they are playing until 5 to 6am next morning ? OMG

The tourney itself is looking good for the top players http://greekpool.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Different-9-Ball-Open-2014.pdf
All the top players Feijen, SVB, Nick, Drago, Souquet all on winners side and only need to win their matches tomorrow to go thru to last 32
Only one have problem is Karl Boyes who has to win next 3 matches to go thru to last 32

And don't forget encyclopita and onomatopita.

-Sean <-- thinks he himself might be a pita (pain in the *ss).

You're really into acronyms lately :)
I'm into puns myself....whaddiya think of SEE-sickness?

I always have been. Don't forget, in I.T., I live in acronym soup, and developed a forward and reverse sense for them. CJ will need a big spot if he thinks he can acronym-pete with me. ;)

I do love puns as well. And irony. Come to think of it, doesn't "irony" describe that taste you get from a mouthful of paperclips?

:p
