Shane vs Jesse update

Jesse plays fast and loose while Shane plays very methodicaly and that seemed to me to be the difference. Shane figured out a way to get out on a couple of late racks where he wasn't supposed to be able to get out. Jesse got a couple bad rolls down the stretch and Shane got a couple of very good rolls and that made a big difference.

It was a very well played match with both players making just a couple mistakes in the 53 games. Jesse got discouraged when it became clear he didn't stand much of a chance at like 26/19 but played tough right to the end showing heart.

Most of the az members were across the room from me. Wish I'd had a chance to meet you dardusm. You did a bang-up job with your reporting. All that reporting would, I think, have spoiled the match for me if I were trying to do it so I see your work as being a very generous and unselfish act. Kudos!!

Shane wanted alternate the breaks or he would not play.

both players agreed to alt. breaks. there was no "not play" involved.
neither player showed a preference and left up to the other player. and believe me I should know.
btw ron you should have been here saturday. 91 players. not bad

What were the results of the tournament?

no, I called this 8 days ago, said Jesse was gonna get smoked

the reality is we all look to the players we like and often exaggerate their skills

I mean no disrespect towards Jesse, he's a great player, but the truth is he is in fact a specialist, has never won a major tourney and is simply not in Shane's league
I guess you dont really know jessie that well do ya...Jessie probably has more state and national titles then anyone. Maybe you would like to match up with Jessie. That could be arranged

Thanks Mikeiniowa

Mike, I just want to commend you for all the work you put into these two events.

I hope others here see your example and how it has helped the pool scene in Iowa and I hope others follow suit.

Thank you for an enjoyable Friday night. Even my wife had fun watching the match and she doesn't even play.

Finally, someone used pool to benefit the SPECTATORS vs. players. What count did you have for the door? I was guessing about 125 people watching, most paid $10. I know we spent $30 while there plus the $10 for tickets.

:) :)

lol, bar boxes not withstanding, never won a major tourney

And you have won what?

Like you said before, he is a specialist. I think the championships you refer to are played on 9 footers. Cause I know you aren't talking state or national championships, cause he has won those. Jesse don't play 9 footers. He has won a ton of stuff on bar boxes. That is what he does. If you are going to bash on him for losing to the hottest player in the world right now, then I say we set up a match for you to play Jesse and see how you fair. I doubt you have ever seen the man play. I don't think anyone really gave him a chance against SVB, but he wasn't scared to jump in the ring because he is confident in his game, and has beaten SVB before.

Guess so, "never won a MAJOR", (then again there are a lot of incredible philipenes that have not won a major either, and a lot of PROS from the US that have not won majors. The hatch man is amazing and still, never won a major. But I dont see him jumping on SVB. Just because he has not thrown his hat in the ring yet to be a pro. Maybe he doesnt want to do it for some reason, but that reason isnt because he doesnt have the game. HE did come to Florida a few years ago and raped the field at a FL PRO event here. So he has the game, big table or small. HE just locked down twice with one of if not the best player right now and he IMHO represented quite well.

Thanks for the positive reps guys...

Steve

It was a plesure providing updates for the Shane and Jesse match. I would like to say that I have lived in KC for the past seven years and I have been fortunate enough to see Jesse Bowman take down several midwest nine ball tournaments and represent hisself very well in one pocket tournaments as well. I think anyone that thinks Jesse is not one of the top players in the country should step up and get in the box with him and see how they like it. Jesse is a formidable nine ball player on any table and I would like to personally thank him for all the exciting pool that I have been lucky enough to witness over the past eight years.

Thanks again to Mike in Iowa, Big Dog Billiards and Shane & Jesse for a wonderful Friday night in Des Moines, Iowa.

Take Care Everyone

J.Bowman would have took it if it was winner breaks 30-27 credit to both players i mean 52 games played and 3 total balls misses wow!!

Jays mom is a wonderful lady, I had the pleasure of speaking to her on the phone,

Anyone who would fire their own $$$ at SBV on anything that looks like a pool table has monster nuts right now.

30-27...You are spot-on again, Helfert! His Momma didn't raise no dummy.

According to the guy who arranged the match they both were in favor of either winner or alternate and didn't care which.

30 to 27? What's that? Are you saying that Jesse would have won 30 to 27 if they had winner breaks?

If so then where in the world did you come up w/that number? Unless I'm mistaken Shane was breaking in more balls and more consistently.

Isnt it nice to really know them

My two cents. Jesse is a helluva player! He just got hooked up with one of the hottest players on Earth right now. No disgrace here. There are very few guys who really want to tangle with Jesse, and I wouldn't hesitate a minute to bet on him. He showed a lot of heart to tee it up with Shane, who everyone else is ducking right now.

Jesse's a great guy and a very talented pool player. I like the way he handles himself. I'll bet he didn't say boo when he lost, just shook Shane's hand and congratulated him. Dwaine raised a winner here.

Jesse has not played but maybe five hours of pool since the vegas tourneys...three of them in a weekly golf game with the boy's here in town....and for everyone's info Jesse drove up friday night played Shane ...drove home fri night (2.5 hrs) got up at 8am sat. went to his sons 45 min soccer game ...drove back to des moines arrived at noon and played in the tourney......how many "25" yr olds would do that....Jesse Has my vote as dad of the year also..Terry

That's it!! I knew there had to be something that was keeping him out and that is it. At least that is what I am going to tell my self to feel better about that much talent just being stuck up on a shelf. I child will definitely put your life in perspective; especially if you are a super DAD who puts them above all things no matter how small their request or need may be. WAY TO GO JESS!!

This is a link to Johnson and Johnson website.
There you will find a list of videos named (.........) having a baby changes everything.
I think these are awesome. They really got me amped up when my wife (at the time) was expecting. And they still get to me. All I can say is if there is a soft spot on me besides my belly, that this is it. Dog gone commercials get me choked up.

You really need me to lead you to the water? As I read it:

Final score: 30-27
1. As per Mr.Schon: Shane required alternating breaks.
2. As per Mr. Helfert: Shane's Momma raised no dummy.
Summary: Shane felt winner breaks was less advantageous to him, with the score so close- see#1- Shane managed that decision quite well.

Oh,
3. As per Fatboy: Jay's Mom is nice.
:D

no the final score was 30-23. the format was not set until just before we began when I asked both players what they preferred. neither cared. nobody required anything. mrschon is right 99.99% of the time but in this case neither player cared. both of these guys knew the other guy could hit a gear.
