Shannon from Ohio?

I was talking with a buddy of mine from Ohio the other day and he mentioned this Shannon kid that plays by him. I guess the kid is 20 years old, plays great in tournaments but can't gamble to save his life. He's supposed to have the best stroke in the country right now. From what my buddy was telling me Shannon and Larry Nevel matched up at Derby City this year doing stroke shots and Larry quit him. Larry is known for having a great stroke and I've seen some of this things he can do (ie draw a ball seven rails) when he was in town for our state tournament, so for him to quit must mean something.

Anyways, does anybody know anything more about this Shannon kid or can someone confirm what I've heard so far?

That is probably who you're talking about. He does play great tournament pool. I haven't seen him gamble, but I played him in the bank event in Derby City and he beat me. I figured he was just a 9-ball player from the things I had heard about him. But I played him pretty tight defensively, and he hung right with me and made some nice banks to get out. Sam

I've seen/saw both. Including Nevel smoke him and others in a little stroke exhibition in the bar area. I also saw Shannon, I believe it was him also, give another young kid the safe 8 and steal his money. I think they played a session for $1000.00, maybe two sessions.

BTW Nevel packed the room, and finished the issue, by drawing the CB length of the table while pocketing a ball straight in 1/2 diamond up from the pocket on the long rail. Not bad, but he did it 3 out of 4 times, jacked up, one handed with the CB frozen on the end rail. Cleared the place.

There was a rumor, that either this Shannon or Shane wanted to match up with Schmidt or Archer for some real cash. Only time I saw Archer come around the bar with his cue. It didn't happen I guess.

lol

First off i know him very well having gambled with him many times playing singles and partners and first off it is shannon murphy and yes he can gamble but the people he hangs around with make bad games for him.. He almost unknowingly beat reed pierce an even set at Michaels in cincy and no offense to Sam or satman but he could probally give you 5 to 4 playing banks and rob you. But the kid does play great he is beating everyone right now he beat tommy syephenson playing even and mike brown and a couple other great players he will in a couple years be one of the best around i promise and the kid plays great one pocket too.

I would have guessed Shannon Murphy too, but you said he didn't gamble and every time I've seen him he was in action. That thru me off.

He was at the U.S. Bar Table in March. Played well and won a couple of side games. He went about his business quietly. I saw him after hours in the practice room, taking off a couple of guys.

Didn't he recently get some weight from a road player and get beat pretty soundly?

I think he is a good tournament player and I have been impressed with some of his showings in some events. However I have only seen him book 1 winner out of the 5 sessions I have seen. I bet against him in 3 of the matches and came out quite well. I am not saying he is a dog by any means, but I don't think his "financial advisors" match up well at times. We tried to set up a match between him and my buddy at DCC giving Shannon weight and odds and it never materialized and this was a better match for him than a couple that he played. You have to compromise to match up sometimes but if you make games you have to outrun all the time it gets tough. On the other hand, if you get games you can win you need to stick in there and get the cheese. One thing I like about him is that he will play.
