Sharking....

I just had to tell everyone what happened to me last night during my League match. It was the last match of the season and my Team was playing this other Team for 2nd place in the standings. Appox. half way threw the match, my Team was winning by a few games.
I was playing this one player on one of two tables. There was another match going already on the other table when my match was called to start. I broke, did not make anything and my opponent started shooting. Well, the player from this other Team who was playing on that other table finished his match and walked over to me as I was sitting on a stool. Right up against me looking down at me. I looked up at him and he states: "Get out of my chair" I couldn't believe it. I say: "I'm playing a match here" and he stated back "your in my chair & I want it back" with that I got up and let him have the chair. I was pretty mad that he would do that to me during my match. Sitting is kind of tough but there were other chairs to sit on in this corner where we were playing. Turns out, the score ends up 23 to 23. I won my last two games & my Teammate (9Ball) won his last two games. We won the match 27 to 23.

Sounds a little mundane... in the west Texas town of El Paso folks take great pride and get very creative to take SHARKING to a new level. I'm not saying I like it, but if that is the best part of their game one should spank them fairly regular.

What a tool, I'm guessing the guy just lost his match and decided to be a tough guy.....how pathetic.....I see your point, the guy was deliberately being an a$$....what he deserved was a broken jaw for that little stunt, people should learn respect....

Had a similar instance in a masters league I played in a while back.....guy had just broke, put down his break stick, and was looking for his player....he had left it over by me, I grabbed it lightly by the joint (believe in total respect for ones equipment), and handed it to him....he came back with, "don't you ever touch my cue again"......I'm not even sure if it was a shark, I think he was serious.....other than being a good sport if we played, I didn't talk or make coversation with him again after that.....his response was totally uncalled for....he could have easily said that he'd rather other people didn't touch his cue, but he had to be a jerk....

Oh well, some people aren't worth your time....

His name may have been on it.
Maybe his feet were hurting.
2 opponents really only need 1 chair. 2 is a luxury.
I have had people yell and throw things, drop cues, jump up.

You know

I actually hate crap like this. Especially when it comes to chairs you are obviously using for a MATCH that you are playing in!

There was no specific chair for a player to sit in. You know what the Den looks like with the stools along the wall. (tables #1 & #2 in the corner when you walk in) It is a tight space. I always look for the best spot to get out of the way to let who ever is shooting enough space. I sat on a stool and the next thing I knew a guy who Im not playing is interrupting my match telling me to get out of his chair. He was serious, I knew he was not joking. I did not sit in any of those chairs for the rest of my matches and I will never sit near them again when we play their Team again. That Team has a history of Sharking but I finally got to see one for myself. I am glad we won the match.

okay... here's for next time

just get up, look at the chair and say... "how can you tell? It doesn't say
a##h0le on it!"

I would have said very plainly, "I don't speak any English."

If that wasn't enough, I would have farted.

LOL.....

You can fart AT WILL!!??? :rotflmao1: THAT would be the BEST SHARK EVER!!

I can't shut off the mental video of all my opponents shooting while trying to hold their breath!! :-)

Okay, in the rare instance that I cannot fart on the spot, I'll simply order a coffee and make sure to finish the cup before the match is done.

Sounds like he was sharking but maybe he is just really anal about his chair.

Yes

Sounds like he was sharking but maybe he is just really anal about his chair.

Yes, you might be right. He most likely is anal and if that is the case. He then needs to bring a sign with his name on it every week to the League matches and place it on what ever chair that he decides to take. This way we can all know not to sit in whatever chair that he wants. Maybe, one of those Director's chair with the name on the back would work for him and he can bring it like he carries his cue case.
Today, it seems funny but he really got me mad last night and it wasn't funny. I have always treated that guy with respect and his Teammates. I will no longer talk to him and keep my distance from a few of the other players on that Team.

You know Mike, last night was probably the only time I've seen you close to losing your cool during a match like that. And to top it off, you had to play him in your next match...Simply brutal!!

Personally, I'm glad I got the chance to play him at the end of the match when the wins counted most. I've always liked beating...I mean, playing him for some reason! :) :D :)

Thanks

Your a good man, good Teammate & a good friend. I will never forget what you told me about one of that Team's players said to you & would not let you play in a ring game with them.

Sounds like a good plan.

Food for thought: The next time you guys play, have your team captain have a private talk with their team captain beforehand and say something like, "You guys have quite a reputation for being <jerks, assholes, sharking people, ... insert appropriate word(s)>. Last time we played you proved it. Please ask your players to not speak to mine, especially when they are in the middle of a match." Then shake hands with them before each match and only communicate non-verbally as needed (e.g., head nod for yes and shake head for no and if they commit a foul let your captain know and he can inform the other captain). The cold-shoulder treatment may well shark them in reverse especially if you open up a can of whoop a$$ on them.

That was my original thought, I'm glad somebody else thought of it too. First I would have stood up and let him sit down, then blast away. Then accuse the other guy of cutting one.
