Shaw concedes down 5-0

You're drawing up something there about his ego and not being able to loose which I think is over the top. When I've seen him loose matches he has taken it well, shook the winner's hand etc. The quitting here seems more related to his frustration with the event than with loosing.
Well, maybe. I think he quit because he realized he faced the humiliation of a possible skunk. You don`t quit because you`re playing bad. I have respect for players who never give up. When you can play like Shaw you are never out of it. Just ask SVB at the World 9 ball championship, down 9 or 10-1 to Mika and wins.

See if I do that in league my team gets pissed. What’s the problem with conceding? If you’re not playing good, what’s the point of playing? To further embarrass yourself? When you feel you have no chance to win I don’t see a problem with conceding. League or tournament. I’ve even told my team that they can concede if they’re really playing bad as long as it’s not the playoffs or something.
I lose my mind on teammates conceding racks. Literally could not count the number of times I've seen the average league'r miss the money ball at the end of the rack. You're not playing for yourself, you're playing for your team. You scrape for every possible point possible for the people counting on you. This becomes even more paramount if you're one of the anchors of the team.

You want to concede a solo match up, then have it at. I consider it unwise but if a bruised ego makes getting up in the morning difficult, then maybe it's the right methodology for you.

In golf there is the idea of protecting the field. So if people are giving putts to the opponent in stroke play, it effects others by giving that player a boost over others that are actually earning there games. Guess maybe that kind of applies here.

After all the backlash, I'd bet if Shaw had it to do over he'd sit till the end of the match.

You really think it had anything to do with ego...? I'm willing to bet that all those that have insinuated such within this thread are also apart of the group that love to hate Shaw because he helps make the Mericans look bad at the Mosconi.

Shaw is free rolling currently. Zero obligations to backers or sponsors. He has the freedom to assess a situation and determine if it's worth the effort. Clearly he was gassed, and he faced an otherworldly machine in Filler running in high gear. Dropping to 0-5 after bad sewer...? Has no one on this forum been exhausted, frustrated, overwhelmed and looking forward to long drive home with potentially a few hours sleep...?..., if you call it quits.

Only ones knocking Shaw, are the predetermined haters.

Not really... A losing score line of 8-9 for Shaw changes nothing.

You're kidding yourself about the amount of backlash, and how much of what is there has been paid attention to by Shaw.

He is a quitter. With quitters it is always about ego. BTW, I don`t hate Shaw. I have always admired his incredible talent. Injury is the only excuse for quitting at the professional level.

That would also include SVB and Alex P. Just so we all know Shaw isn't the first to concede. Out of that 3 person list SVB's was the most shallow.
You're right, nobody made a fuss when svb quit. Alex appeared pretty well hobbled from his accident, he gets a pass.

I have no issue with Jayson Shaw conceding considering his age, physical fitness, amount of time he had been playing for the previous week and that day, and the time of the match. Quite frankly it was the only sane thing to do. There is a reason we are only seeing 20-somethings make it to the finals.

As far as a paying spectator (online) perspective, seeing play in the wee hours of the morning, and seeing a final between two exhausted players who are not playing anywhere near their best, is not something I am interested in. All it does is promote drug use. Someone is going to drop dead during the event if they keep this up.

Of course, then there is Joshua Filler, who seems to be a freak of nature at this point. His game did not seem to be that affected by the marathon session, and I have a hard time believing he would be using drugs to aid his performance.

The Killer looked beat but his game wasn't.

My post isn't meant to raise speculation.

Filler's level dropped when he played Ray Linares. Ray played great, don't get me wrong, but Filler looked exhausted. How he was able to come back and play at that high level is incredible.

Filler did get a bit of a break when his next match ended early. But he sure as heck didn't show a drop in play level during the first 4/5 racks of that match with Shaw. He did, however, look exhausted. The long match with Linares wore me out just watching it.

there is no conceding putts in golf except in match-play and its a common thing to do.

right, that's why I said stroke play
i added the 'no'. sorry. there is NO conceding putts in stroke play golf events, pro or amateur. Only in match-play do you concede putts. I have no issue with conceding pool shots, especially at the pro level. Its not like they're conceding backward cuts or bank shots.

vitaly vs labutis took forever so i guess filler got some decent rest. labutis on the other hand didn't get much (if any) rest. i was super impressed by the last three and john morra, to play at that standard.

It didn't appear to me that Labutis was fatigued in the least. Read what you want into that.
