Shaw concedes down 5-0

As an American I would like to hate on Shaw. I just can't, I have met him and at one time helped him with a difficult task and he is not the villain. Just a player who has seen and done it all.

Shaw has an incredible game and a personal life that is rivaling his pool career. At one point we have to decide what is more important. It seems that Jayson may have made that call in the early morning hours.

This is not the first time a player has decided to give it up, until we are in that situation who are we to judge the decision.
sorry this is just bullshit, you think the rest of the players weren’t tired? You don’t quit. No.

It’s fine that you don’t get it. Not everyone has to agree. But yeah this is just weak minded garbage quitting like this.

I agree if it is from exhaustion. However you just don't start the match then.
I did it in last 3 of a state tourney. Couldn't go, been playing all day and previous night. Bowed out before the match started.
Yep, completely different things. Once the first ball is hit, unless it’s some medical reason, just finish it. Take your bagel and go if that is how it winds up. Or, if given the opportunity, fight back and who knows the outcome. It’s crybaby BS to quit midmatch because you’re tired or you’re getting beat.

Possibly you are right. I rarely quit anything I set out to do. I have taught my children and many others I have trained that if you say you will do it..."than do it"

Every once in a while the situation may present itself to where it may not be possible.

I have watched Jayson compete for years and he does not usually back off.

Quit....Don't quit....who knows.

Nobody knows what state he was in by that point in the week. It wasn't just the grind of a single tournament. It was 4! Throw in a few days of poor sleep and then no sleep. He reached his limit.

For better or for worse, it's not 1970 anymore.

We work 12hrs 6 days a week doing floors bud , come home and mow the grass , throw football with kids , cook dinner !!!! Big babies use to being catered to is all they are . Gotta man up sometimes…… I’m so happy he QUIT , made my day 💯…… Talkinv about long hrs and stress , give me a break
Why would you brag about such an unhealthy work life balance? 8 hours a day 4 days a week is great, five days a week if you have a bad job.

Also everytime I've talked with shaw he's been nothing but one of the nicest and welcoming people I've met. Don't understand the hate for him or filler for that matter.

I wouldn't judge whether or not he should have packed it in (and he did pack it in graciously), but I would say that at the pace Filler was playing the match only had about 4 minutes left.
I don't think I've ever seen someone make 9 ball look quite as easy as Filler did in that match.

DCC has it's issues, NO DOUBT ABOUT IT. I wish it would make some changes so matches are better spaced out etc etc.

Having said that, none of the other players(speaking on the true contenders only, the cream of the crop which JS certainly is) playing through "the gauntlet portion" of the event forfeited mid-match. Every one of them knew this was likely to happen and knew there was a solid chance they'd have to play match after match through to the wee hours of the morning to contend.

Now if this experience leads to JS not playing in the future, I would completely understand. Until Diamond/organizers make some major changes it will continue to play out the same year after year. It's gotta be miserable to go through that and the prize money isn't amazing compared to other events you could choose. You'd have to more do it out of will power and love for the game and or chasing banners. Perhaps it's not worth it to JS and that's fine. But Just finish your match(that you were perfectly fine to start) and go get some sleep.

Unhealthy? Really? So you don’t work at least a 40 hour week?

I met Jayson for the first time waiting for the hotel elevator.

I introduced myself as Bobby's guy on AZ for his 14.1 run and he seemed like a decent guy for the few moments we spoke.

Playing Filler with 5 or 6 left in DCC 9 ball. Filler missed the 8, Shaw makes the 8, scratches in the side and waves goodbye… crazy

Sure, he was a huge HUGE underdog to win the match but man crazier things have happened.

What a shame.
There is just something about a quitter. An ego so big that they can`t suffer the indignity of losing. Cowardly and whiney, not a good look for a pro. Suck it up, fight back, do your job.

Ronnie quit plenty of matches for lesser reasons in his career and is still regarded as one of the greatest snooker players in the world.

People will get over this in short time.
There's this life lesson thing you try to teach your children about NOT quitting something they have started. It's a great lesson to teach your kids BUT at some point you have the second conversation where you explain sometimes it actually does make sense to quit. "I'm sorry your mother lied to you about never quitting, I would have never phrased it exactly that way."

You're drawing up something there about his ego and not being able to loose which I think is over the top. When I've seen him loose matches he has taken it well, shook the winner's hand etc. The quitting here seems more related to his frustration with the event than with loosing.

I don't know him but from what I've observed and heard from others Jayson seems like a super solid dude and given the ridiculousness that is becoming Derby City 9 Ball from a scheduling standpoint fully understand his actions here.

One of the reasons he may be getting more push back than someone else might from this is American fans are sick and tired of watching him dominate and carry on at Mosconi Cup. That's what I don't like about him; I'm tired of him kicking our butt at Mosconi Cup, ha.

I was thinking the same. Felt that way about Victor Hoveland this year at Ryder when he was ramping up the crowd after the severe beating we were taking. And I've always like him otherwise.

"Do your job" is a key phase. People come to watch Jason. He has sponsors for that reason. If I quit it would be OK. Nobody comes to watch me play and I have no sponsors. Plus, if I'm down 5-0 to Filler, I would have a better chance of hitting the Powerball. Shaw can string together multiple racks at any time. He still had a chance. I'm going to use the word "PUSSY" here because I think it fits.

Almost has a feel of ''payroll'' goin' on.
I truly doubt SVB or Souquet would of done this.
Doesn't help the industry.

at this time, i'd venture to say he had no chance. his game was tired, sub-standard and he was up against an energizer bunny freak, who not only dashed out to a 5-0 lead in no time, but also then went to the TV table and shot .975. jayson should still fulfill and do his job though
