Shaw concedes down 5-0

You're drawing up something there about his ego and not being able to loose which I think is over the top. When I've seen him loose matches he has taken it well, shook the winner's hand etc. The quitting here seems more related to his frustration with the event than with loosing.
If his quitting was fully about the event etc then why wait til you’re down 0-5 in an active match why not just not show up for the match? I’m sorry that just doesn’t add up at all. He was embarrassed(nothing to be embarrassed about getting beat happens all the time to everyone) and couldn’t handle the beating he was taking.

I don't know him but from what I've observed and heard from others Jayson seems like a super solid dude and given the ridiculousness that is becoming Derby City 9 Ball from a scheduling standpoint fully understand his actions here.

One of the reasons he may be getting more push back than someone else might from this is American fans are sick and tired of watching him dominate and carry on at Mosconi Cup. That's what I don't like about him; I'm tired of him kicking our butt at Mosconi Cup, ha.
He had no issue showing up for the start of the match. He had issues with how the match was going. Which is silly, I’m sure he’s handed out plenty of 9-0 beatings in his life. Sometimes you’re the bug.

He could be the coolest dude in the world for all I know, I have nothing against the man. But he’s a quitter. You can be a great person and also a quitter. You just can’t be a true professional at the thing you’re quitting.

we can all draw conclusions, but you don't know and I don't know. And by the way, I didn't say I knew, I said I've seen him loose graciously before.

I know he quit. I know he had just scratched on an easy 2 ball out left by his opponent. I know he was down 5 games to zero at the time that you believe he suddenly had issues with the event that he thought warranted quitting an active match.

You’re drawing more conclusions than me. If anyone is reaching here it’s the apologists.

Love it. Shaw getting people all riled up again.

I have no view on him deciding to quit. His choice. Format of the tournament makes it somewhat understandable, though I would not have made the same decision. That said, he really should not attend next year.

Not going to damage the industry, either, because not enough people pay attention to it in the States.

See if I do that in league my team gets pissed. What’s the problem with conceding? If you’re not playing good, what’s the point of playing? To further embarrass yourself? When you feel you have no chance to win I don’t see a problem with conceding. League or tournament. I’ve even told my team that they can concede if they’re really playing bad as long as it’s not the playoffs or something.

Using APA league as an example since more people play league than tournaments. You miss 3/4 times annd anll of a sudden you anre down 40-5. Dont you feel like quitting at that point? Well, on another note in league, if you quit, they only get 15 points….. but that isn’t the point I’m trying to make. What are you supposed to do? Losing more can hurt your confidence the next time you play too. If you’re in the middle of a football game and not playing good they put somebody else in. The option isn’t there in pool.

Considered in a vacuum, no pro should ever quit in the middle in of a match. But this match took place in the wee hours of the morning when everyone was out of gas and yawning. Jayson fell behind 5-0 to a guy who had been in dead stroke all week and probably reckoned he no longer had the energy or spirit to continue. I was surprised by his mid-match concession, but he gets a pass from me. Diamond has to find a way to put an end to these matches that take place after most have gone to sleep. Pool shouldn't be about who can play when they are under-rested, but Diamond has turned the 9ball event into just that.

Next year someone will be there selling "Uppers" or "Black Beauties" for the last two days of play. That's how they played those two day matches in the old days. I took one of those little "Whites" a couple of times and they wired me up for 24 hours! I did play 16-18 hours on the natch a few times as well. One time won $300 at $5 9-Ball. Smoke that!

Jason went on FB Live today talking about it. He said the Sword brothers were claiming he was giving Filler a “saver” for Master of the Table. He emphasized he’d been playing since 9AM and it was 4AM at that point. Josh put a 4 pack on him out the gate. He was falling asleep in his chair. Got one chance at the table l, scratched on the shot, Filler was now up 5-0 and he knew they were driving home the next day. He felt going to bed and getting 4 hours of sleep sounded like a much better idea. He also said the Sword brothers alleged his dump threw off Fedor’s game and caused him to lose to Labutis. He scoffed at that notion giving credit to Pijus for playing well. Saying if Fedor would lose because of what’s going on at another table, then that’s a losing mentality. If that was true he said it would have been the fault of the Sword brothers for even seeing Jayson conceded and relaying that info to Fedor in the middle of his match while he was up.

Also of note, Jayson mentioned he is currently not sponsored by anyone. He said if someone wants to throw a bunch of money at him he’ll take it but he’s not actively seeking sponsorship. He’s saying he appreciates being contractually untethered. And he said the people at Peri were bad people. I thought in the age of sponsors that was pretty strong words.

Unhealthy? Really? So you don’t work at least a 40 hour week?
No, I live in a country with strong worker protections, most work 36-32. And never more than 40. Why would want to spend that much time at work? Salaries here provide a good life, unless you are low skilled and then you get benefits to supplement. Plus 4-6 weeks(4 is law) paid vacation + a 13 month of bonus salary in may (by law).

And yes unhealthy, how do you spend time with family, do some sports to take care of your physical self, spend time with friends and play pool for mental health when you spend that much time working, your spending more than half your waking hours working at 60 hours a week.

A more professionally run event would not have put Shaw in that spot. Matches should never go past midnight.
In the case of DCC, a lot of the attendees were leaving early in the morning on Sunday so it was not really possible for them to see the final five or six matches.

Will Diamond fix anything? Two strikes so far.

Not talking 60. 40 is enough for me. Lol

i listened to the sword/fedor/frost podcast and to be clear only sword insinuated any shady business. he also described it as a lengthy commotion when shaw quit, which may be true but it wasn't noticeable on either of the livestreams.
