So I made the mistake of saying how many cues I actually have...and now I must part with some before I can buy another...

What goes? What stays? How many sets do I need?

Plus she said; I can't get rid of any cues that were given to me as gifts (eg: the one she gave me for my birthday last year)...

What does a guy part with?

While I am very happily married, and I have a wife that can care less how many pool cues I have, or how many cars I have....there has to be a balance to maintain a healthy relationship....but if my wife ever demanded that I part with my possessions because she doesn't like them, or thinks I have too many, then there's a serious problem in the relationship. If you are in need of the money, that's a whole other story.....but if not, its ridiculous. Every healthy relationship, both parties will have things that the other isn't interested in, and doesn't interfere with. Your cue collection sounds like it's yours..... I suggest a nice dinner and kindly lay it out....

Start rat-holing some money every week....$10 here....$20 there....until you get a nice wad of cash. Then...find a good place to hide a bunch of your cues. Show her the $$$ wad, and tell her you sold a lot of your cues, and may you buy a new cue now? Then, rip a couple of twenties out of your wad and tell her to go buy herself a new blouse or something. After you get your new cue...slowly bring your cues back out of hiding...she will never notice!!! :thumbup:

Very simple just say to her it would be a good idea to sell some cues to help
pay for a pool table in the new house

The girl!!! Just kidding. Not sure what you have in your stable but I would consider getting rid of production cues first followed by cues are holding on to but don't get any play.

If you have a Szamboti in the stable you wish to part with IM me.
 
Tell her that you agree,but that HER part of the compromise is she has to throw away 5 or 10 pairs of shoes,for every cue you part with.

This does not include flip flops,ALL of which must be purged :p. Tommy D.
 
Are both of you trying to buy the house or just you? Tell her that you bought these cues as investments and that now is not the time to unload as the market is too soft. Curbing your spending is one thing, selling your stuff to appease another is a whole different matter.

I'll buy the 4x8 rugged is she wins. :-)

Don't listen to these guys. Most are probably single or just showing a set because their wives don't see their bold posts. LOL. What does she collect? Maybe offer a compromise. You will sell one cue for every 5 pairs of shoes she gets rid off. Something like that.
 
Yep, compromise is in order. Don't know what you have, but I'd keep my favorite player and cues that have the potential to appreciate. Get rid of the junk and players that you never use anymore, and stuff that's just taking up space. I have 4 keeper players, one cue to trade around with, one break cue, one jump cue, and 3 cases. My wife is just terrific.

That definitely changes things. I probably shot off the cuff a little in my initial post.....and I have to agree that offloading a few cues to help finance a house is a very worthy cause. You can always buy more later on when your financial situation changes/improves. Above and beyond your billiards hobby, a home that you own supersedes that by far IMO. I sold off 2 of my Z-cars to help finance my addition and pool room. My wife didn't suggest or make me do it, but it was the best way to do it and not incur any debt in the process, I paid cash for the addition and my GC table....but I also had 7 Z's at the time, and to be honest, I was getting weary of trying to keep 7 of them maintained and on the road. My wife can care less what I spend on as long as our bills are paid....I got lucky with her, she's a keeper in a big way. I don't know enough about your situation to really make that call, but compromise is definitely a good policy, especially when the goal is the house. As to which cues to part with, thats a decision you'll have to make, you're the only one who knows how you play with each cue.
 
just an idea, but if she wants you to control the spending, and you want to keep the cues? why not put em up in hock to a friend? Your friend can hold them for you, for a small fee, and when you are caught up (house purchase) you can get em back........make a contract! and pay the friend a holding fee like a pawn. Tell the wife you put the cues somewhere on consignment for sale...which is a white lie, but thats marriage..

I appreciate your response; she treats me right... but I'm guilty. I do have the tendency of getting attached to a hobby and turning it to 11. I was this way with car audio and another career choice in a prior life.

To everyone else; thanks for the advice...as I have said before; I believe she is right and I do have to reduce the stock. I only have production cues; never had the patience for customs (6 months+ waiting time, I just can't do it). I'd like to think I'm a young guy; 26 and I'd like to have my own pool room/man cave in the near future. Thanks for putting things into perspective for me.
