Shipping Charges

If you ever bought from Seyberts .... Their tubes are incredibly strong. I use one when I shipped a cue to Proficient and got the cue back in a USPS triangle box... The cues was wrapped with newspaper. I passed out!
Just got a cue from Seybert's and i'm pretty sure you could knock someone out with this tube... They used UPS padded envelopes as stuffing (thanks for the free future packaging!) and that thing wasn't about to move in there. May keep the tube in case i need to ship a cue/shaft. I do the same for bike forks because finding a 12x6x36" box is impossible without spending $$$$$.

As far as shippers are concerned: Preference is UPS, but the Postal Service has also been very good to me (MN). Can't stand FedEx and it makes me nervous when i order stuff shipped with them. Have had close to $5000 in bike components temporarily "lost" or arrive in wet/damaged packaging just in the last year. Thankfully the packaging engineers know what they're doing and none of the parts were damaged.

Definitely save the Seybert's tube...it's the strongest I've ever seen/used.

Amazon has good prices on the rectangular boxes in bulk. Way cheaper than the shipping brick and mortar stores. For finished cues, I like putting a smaller round tube inside of the 4x4 shipping tube, for double wall protection.
Thx. I found (25) for $40 on Amazon. 36x4x4. Don’t think it will impact the label cost.

Yeah, I'm curious about the price. I have a UPS Acct but rarely use it. Normally I use USPS and it used to be $15 to $25 ish. I heard they pumped up the price for 30" long and over packages. I'm going to put a package price together for the 3rd cut maple shafts I have and want to include shipping in the price.
Do not put them in a round tube, they charge more for that because the round tubes get caught in the conveyor belts.

Well, I just got hit with additional shipping charges from UPS on these 2nd cut shafts I've been selling that some of you know about. Usually when I print my own label it's roughly $10 to $15 dollars. I've made about 8 shipments lately and the last two were hit with $24.00 and $23.50 additional handling for shipping in tubes that was debited from my PayPal acct.

As for shipping in tubes -- it's a really, really bad idea. All the handling is automated. Tubes don't work on conveyor belts. Eventually a janitor may find where the tube has rolled to.

UPS charged me $13 to ship a cue in a tube 32"x3" and weighing 1 pound, 4 ounces. It traveled from Greensboro North Carolina (east of Asheville and the unpassable I-40 there) to South Dakota. Although it was a round box, eBay only asked for height, width, and length measurements. I entered 32"x3"x3".

UPS Tracking claims the tube will be delivered today. I guess the janitor was watching the conveyor belts closely this week. So far, so good.

Maybe Paypal is charging more than is eBay for shipping via UPS????

I should add that the tube i got from Seybert's was in another box with a 1x1 case and some other random junk i bought.
Would definitely double pack anything that is valuable.

The other posters are right!!!! DON'T SEND CUE STICK IN ROUND CONTAINER VIA UPS. eBay charged me $13.17 initially but then added $13 to make a grand total of $26.12 in UPS shipping.

This is so helpful to know about. Sharing information like this ultimately discovers the different alternatives & best ones
to use for cost effectiveness, reliability and shipping problems. It be great to have a thread for just shipping problems.

Anyone with a good or bad experience could share the details of their experience for others to benefit from. This thread
has been very informative, at least from my perspective as I wouldn’t have learned until I did the same thing as others.

You are correct. I use the local UPS Store.
They claim UPS charges more for round tubes. They said because the round tubes are easily lost and or, can fall off the conveyers.
Lucky for me, they had triangle boxes to put the tube in. The difference was almost 20 bucks going from Providence to Boston.
A one hour drive away.
