I need to ship a cue and I went to the post office figuring they would have the box but no luck. They said the don't carry what I am looking for but I just recieved a cue in a large, narrow, triangle shaped box for USPS. Shoulda kept the box. The lady said order it online but can't find it. Can anyone help???? Thanks in advance.

You're looking for the medium triangle shipping box (the small is too short for cues..you have to tape two together). It can be used for both USPS priority and express mail. You can order it online for free, but it takes usually over a week to come in. Check another post office , you may get lucky and find one with one in stock, but it is rare. Most shipping places will have a tube or something similar. For cues over a few hundred bucks in value I usually also ship in a PVC pipe inside the triangle. The USPS triangles aren't as strong as they used to be, but the FedEx triangles are still pretty hefty.

You can also easily get the triangular shipping tubes at a Fedex facility and use it through USPS.

Lowes and Home Depot have heavy duty tubes with caps. For added security, you can put it in a PVC tube first.

I can't speak for Domestic Conus shipping but if you're going to be shipping internationally please do not rely solely on them triangular boxes. They may feel sturdy brand new but they're not at all through transit.
As soon as moisture and condensation kicks in, those boxes are gonna be like bread skin(by terrible baker) at most. No amount of newspaper wrapped round the cue is gonna help.

I've bought some cues from several countries and have shipped to several myself. Here's what I'd recommend.

1) Wrap Shafts and Butt individually preventing direct abrasion between them.
2) Use PVC Tube or Thick Corrugated Tube (the best I've seen are from Seyberts shipping).
3) Ensure there is no rattling sound when wrapped cue goes into Tube. Add bubble pack if possible.
4) Then use Triangular USPS box to contain above tube.

Some will argue what I described above as excessive, but I've received cues packed with Cloth bag + Newspaper + Bubble Pack + USPS Triangular Box and still a dent on the butt...I know it's caused by shipping as the dent on cue aligns with indentation on box.

Another note when buying PVC or Corrugated tube, don't be greedy and buy the thickest...the weight adds $30-50 extra on shipping easily.

try your local plumbing supply house
usually cheaper then lowes, home depots, etc.
the foam core pipe is lighter & cheaper
last week i picked up 20 ft of 2" & 20 ft of 1.50" for $22.44
the peace of mind > priceless:wink:

This question comes up from time to time. I recall in a previous thread that someone related his experience in shipping in a tube of some kind. A tube will roll, of course, and this creates a lot of risk on the conveyor systems that shippers use in their sort facilities. The previous poster had his cue damaged because it rolled partially off a conveyor and then got wedged in the machinery.

Best solution is to use a tube, for strength, inside one of those triangular boxes. Can't roll, and has double-wall protection.
