Wow what was I thinking, these good old boys are fantastic.
I'm going to take my Allison Fisher poster and throw it in the garbage.
I've downloaded the Aaron Czetli photo and i'm going to keep it on my desk.

You know what, the only thing that could be better than Owen and Czetli would be Bernie" And the Oscar goes to" Friend and Czetli in the booth together.
This could be an extra IPT Pay Per View event.
I'd be willing to pay an extra $9.95 just for that one match.

I think they're pretty damn funny. It's obvious that it's tongue-in-cheek stuff (the stuff that could be interpreted negatively if taken at face value). Obviously they don't mean a lot of what they're saying. I mean, they really don't think Rodney should have broken Efren over his knee to win the match (and get a verbal warning from "Joe"). :D
 
Personally I really prefer the way Deno and Allison have carried themselves in the match coverage.

I really dont care for all of the sarcasm. Just more proof that people like different things.

When Gabe said Mika "Enema", that did it for me.

Mika is a Humble, class act.

I agree with you, I still liked Allison and Deno better. Certainly both pairings couldn't have a more contrasting style.
 
I thought they were pretty insulting generally. Making fun of Efren's voice is ok once or twice, but twentyfive times is a bit much. I suggest they pratice hard, so we won't have them as commentators ever again. We have Deno and Allison for the next one luckily.

Mika is also probably friendly with Gabe as they are peers and have played against each other and chatted many times. He is quite likely to have a beer later on with Gabe and have a laugh at the commentary while you sit here trying to defend him like a stick in the mud with zero sense of humor.

Personally I found alot of the commentary quite amusing and it was closer to the actual chat one has when in the event talking to the players as peers rather then sitting on the outside looking in like most commentary. It was refreshing to have commentators that are not so uptight as so many are.

I am not defending anyone, I am publicly announcing my displeasure with Aaron and Gabes commentating.
 
I like all the commentators... Allison and Deno is a great "clean" pair... but Gabe and Aaron are very funny... I don't think it's insulting at all...I think they are great together.... I hope they do more commentating next time .... Incardona and the old boys are Ok... but I like the IPT guys better.. I don't know... kind of new flavor to me..

I thought Gabe and the other guy were really bad. They nevr shut up and were silly. I turned off the volume.
 
I agree. It actually embarassed me that Gabe and Aaron were allowed to continue their distasteful commentary. How can you defend these guys when they insulted Daryl Peach time after time after time. Am I the only one that heard them call him Dazed and dazzled repeatedly? Gabe is a great pool player, but he and Aaron displayed the maturity of a 12 year old kid. Maybe they will one day learn that insulting other people and disrespecting their accomplishments is not the kind of humor most of us are looking for. If you like that stuff, try the comedy channel, not the World Championships were players deserve respect. Aaron worked with Nick today and did much better, but I would prefer the Hall of Famers or more mature players handle all the future commentary jobs. Allison, as usual, did a great job. Dino was super also.
 
Nobody should make fun of Efren Reyes in any way shape or form, especially someone who has been eliminated. Tongue in cheek or not this is a 52 yr old man who is once again in the top 6! Way past his prime and still competing at the highest level. They should give him the respect he deserves.

I thought some of Deno's commentary was a little questionable given that he is the tournament director and his jokes on giving people fines for certain things did not come off as funny but instead came off as poor taste IMO.

Allison I simply find tremendously boring. She has 0 personality and brings no entertainment to the commentary at all.

They gave him tons of respect. They said many times that he is the best pool player of all time. They gave him full props on every amazing thing he did. They stated the guy can actually take the harder path on a table just for kicks and STILL get out. Even in their impersonation of Efren where they said "Oh, I just get lucky" it was a commentary that even though Efren is humble and lets face it, the eternal hustler trying to discredit some of his own magic, he is NOT getting lucky all the time and he is simply THAT good.

I dont know what you were listening to, they gave him respect in spades.

Glad to hear it! I was just going off the post that said that they were making fun many times over of Efren. My bad. Glad to hear that they gave him props. My only info is coming off this board.

This is not Efren's intentions at all. Gerald, I guess you will have to purchase the DVD's and make your own opinion;)

I've watched Efren dozens of times and have never seen him be anything but courteous to opposing players. He always seems to have fun. Maybe he is so subtle that I and others at So. Calif rooms don't see him disrespect anyone. Guess I'll have to get the DVD.
 
Some of the commentary was a bit juvenile but it was colorful and funny. I particularly like the contrast between Gabe "the real pro" and Aaron "the shortstop" when they were speculating on the way the game should be played.

I expect that they will learn where they can go and where they shouldn't with time.

I found the constant making fun of Efren to be slightly annoying but sometimes quite funny.

And the resepct for Efren's game and accomplishments was definitley there all the way around.

They also made good points about Efren's opponents sometimes dogging it because they were playing the reputation rather than the table.

I thought it was good and funny overall.

Gabesmom - please tell Gabe to stop already with the nizzles and shizzles and rizzles - not only is that really passe' but it's also confusing for anyone under 30. The under 30 crowd is "cool" but the over 30 crowd pays the bills.

Dude, that was so tongue-in-cheek. These two had nothing but the utmost respect for Efren and were being playful. If Efren were to listen to the commentary then I bet he'd smile right along with the rest of us.

That said, they do need to work on it a little bit so that the being funny doesn't overshadow the players and the competition.
