Nobody should make fun of Efren Reyes in any way shape or form, especially someone who has been eliminated. Tongue in cheek or not this is a 52 yr old man who is once again in the top 6! Way past his prime and still competing at the highest level. They should give him the respect he deserves.

How in the world can Efren be considered "past his prime" when he has won every major title in the last five years that can be won? I think Efren is just pure living proof that if you truly love what you do you won't work a day in your life. While numerous other pros continually ***** about how hard it is to be a pro with little reward Efren just quietly takes down the cash, lives a relatively simple life and is consequently adored and respected by a country and feared by his opponents. Age is not a factor.

I thought ..

it was a nice change myself, and yes, they were just having a little fun, Poolplayers ALL THE TIME, needle other players in fun. I started to doze off a time or two with Allison and Deno, not that were bad or anything, but it was so run of the mill. Gabe and Aaron kept you going, and speculating about the match.

But, of course, I like the English guy Sid too .... lol

And who remembers Harry Carey, Jr.?

Some of the commentary was a bit juvenile but it was colorful and funny. I particularly like the contrast between Gabe "the real pro" and Aaron "the shortstop" when they were speculating on the way the game should be played.

I expect that they will learn where they can go and where they shouldn't with time.

I found the constant making fun of Efren to be slightly annoying but sometimes quite funny.

And the resepct for Efren's game and accomplishments was definitley there all the way around.

They also made good points about Efren's opponents sometimes dogging it because they were playing the reputation rather than the table.

I thought it was good and funny overall.

Gabesmom - please tell Gabe to stop already with the nizzles and shizzles and rizzles - not only is that really passe' but it's also confusing for anyone under 30. The under 30 crowd is "cool" but the over 30 crowd pays the bills.

I haven't seen or heard it yet, so can't give much of my opinion of it.

I believe this is his first time being a commentator and will definitely learn from it. I'm sure most of the players he's been around all these years know he's a real jokester, he finds humor in most anything, and maybe he did go a bit overboard by what some are saying here.

But he'll hear the opinions from many people, and perhaps with tweaking he may become a fairly good commentator. I know most commentators catch some kind of flack from different people.

But it also sounds like some people enjoyed the change of pace.
Maybe I can give a better opinion once I watch it.

The only match I saw was the last match against Oliver and Efren, with Allison and Robles commentating.

They were good! Especially Allison, who was serving as the Mitch Lawrence type character instead of the analyst. I gotta give Allison props.

Dude, that was so tongue-in-cheek. These two had nothing but the utmost respect for Efren and were being playful. If Efren were to listen to the commentary then I bet he'd smile right along with the rest of us.

Well said.

I wonder what the response would be on this board of the site http://www.blackpeopleloveus.com/

Try reading the letter section. Scary commentary on humanity that.

I think they did a great job. Their commentary was more like sitting on the rail watching the match live listening to the banter of the railbirds who actually know the players. I would far rather listen to "real" commentating over the robotic boring commentating that Allison does. She has zero personality and says nothing interesting at all. I am surprised her and Deno have not talked about the great choice in carpet color for the event yet, maybe in the finals!

Just the facts

I don't like to be entertained by the commentators. Gabe would not shut up for one second. The pool match is entertainment in itself. I would rather listen to Hiopkins or Grady.

Oh give me a break. Grady is a very knowledgeable pro obviously, but he drones on and on in the matches I've seen.

If you're that sensitive about what you may hear, that's why you have (1) the mute button (just a click away); or (2) the external speaker volume button.

No doubt. Grady does his best Rodney Dangerfield impression far too often. The "I tell ya, I get no respect" one.

I love Grady's commentating, but HOPKINS, come on! You have got to be kidding me! Allen Hopkins is the WORST commentator I have ever heard. You learn absoloutely nothing. Here is a comparison between Grady's commentary and Allen's:

Grady: "On this you aim to overcut it just a hair, hit it with a little outside so it doesn't skid on you, and the 3-rail position for the 6 is natural. This route ensures he will have an angle for the 7 after he makes the 6."

Allen: "He's gotta make the 5 over there and go up table for the 6."

Aaron and Gabe have immense respect for their fellow players, especially Efren. They were very excited to have been given the opportunity to commentate. Aaron loves to make people laugh (most often at his own expense), and he, Gabe, and Corey cut up like this all the time. Those of you who have tuned in to "Beyond The Break" have heard them poke fun jabs at everyone and each other.

Everyone will have their preferences. Personally, I enjoyed the change. It sure beats the same old stuff we hear every match.
