A New Generation Of Case Makers

There's been a lot of talk lately about O'Neil and his cases, much of it revolving around whether he even takes orders anymore. According to a conversation I had with him on 8/12/2012, he does and any orders should be sent to him via eMail. The only problem being that he doesn't check his eMail, confirmed by the lack of response to many potential customer's, on this forum, inquiries. I think we all understand why he is no longer able to fulfill the number of orders he is receiving but that does not change the fact that there is an active market for his product and I now find myself looking in new directions for custom box cases.
I'm putting out a WTB message for a custom 1x1 box case. Black with white stitching, dark green interior and polished metal outer corner protectors or black interior and exterior with brass metal fittings. The interior will have the standard cue accommodations and accessories compartment large enough for chalk and a tip tool with a secondary lid on the accessories compartment that closes flush with the rest of the interior paneling. In addition I would add a separate interior space for a cue ball, a rounded and cushioned indent so as to keep it from moving when the case is closed. The outer covering could be either vinyl or stained and coated wood.
I'd like to see if there are any talented craftsmen on here that would like to showcase their ability and probably pick up several new customers in the process. Feel free to post examples of your work along with prices and turnaround time so other potential buyers may see as well.

Several posters have expressed what type of case they would like to have by posting their thoughts in the CUE CASE REVIEWS section of the Forums. Good luck!

There are several case makers that make musical instrument cases and shotgun cases that can easily fill orders for cue cases.

I was collecting info on them several months ago. When I get time I will post links.

One of them actually made the It's George cases for a while.

I talked to several of them and they can do "one of" or produce small production runs, no problem. The prices would come in right around what one would expect. If you want leather then you can simply add the cost of the material. It costs them no more to put it together with leather than it does with vinyl covering, only the material cost is higher.

I can make the cases myself, but I simply don't have the time. I am still intending to make some leather tube cases to sell, but my medical business is taking off so I put all that on the back burner.

The O,Neil cases are great, and occasionally s pristine one comes available. But I am thinking we need to see the brand as fading at best. But understand that the box case is probably the least "specialized" cue case and there are a number of instrument and firearms case makers that can put together a comparable case already. It's actually easier to make the interior for cues than it is for other things that are odd shapes.

The first case I ever fell in love with was my Fellini. The second belonged to a friend back in the eighties that carried a Meucci Original in a really cool O'Neil case. I have wanted one ever since and never owned one.

That's a great idea! I was looking around for woodworkers and even got information on some people whom distribute products for the Amish but I never thought to contact companies that already produce cases for other industries.
