shoot lefty but I'm a righty?

arguably the greatest player ever shot left handed and was naturally right handed i think, Mike Sigel.

Since most of you guys never bowled, I'll let you in on a secret. The best bowlers are always lefties. Much smoother than righties. Only lefties are in their right mind is how the saying goes. I've practiced lefty and can say that the stroke is much better on that side. Can't convince the eyes though. And Sigel is a righty that shoots left. Um...I was always under the impression that the best bowlers were ambidextrous. Sigel shoots left handed, and these guys could never compare with him.

So explain it again, how does being a lefty give you an advantage?
Three of my friends play left-handed despite being right-handed. I have no idea why, and neither do they. Just feels right...

I'm a lefty too, and I gotta say, pool is a sport where it has advantages. People will unconsciously leave 'stretch' shots for righty's. From playing versus right-handed opponents most of the time, people develop unconscious pattern play which benefits lefties. Varies wildly though.

I guess they see me shooting left handed and then wonder how or why I do that. I have tried left handed and CANNOT use a bridge left handed.hennessee shoots opposite his dominate side due to an accident that removed a few of his fingers. everyone can overcome or shoot opposite hand if they spend enough time and practice to do so. as to whether it is an asset to shoot opposite of your dominant side is a good question.
I know that most of the pros that I have watched that are leftys have a smoother stroke, but do lack in the creativity of possible shots. This relies on the left brain/right brain functions. A very well studied topic. Is left or right brain dominance better for pool?

I am a lefty that shoots.............lefty...
but I a more than comfotable playing right handed if I dont have to stretch...
But I also swing a bat naturally right handed.. more power..but I have better placement left handed...
I show better mechainics throwing a ball right handed b/c themotion is text book when comapred to my left hand side arm (football and softball)
If I worked at it I am pretty sure I could get my RH game within a ball or two of my LH game. Might make for some good gambles in the right room
Ronnie Osullivan, as I have heard, could beat 90% of snooker players LH if choose to... I even heard that he contemplated playing an entire season LH ....I think he even said that...

another point is that if you are a righty and you learn to shoot lefty, your stroke will usually be more textbook because it doesn't come natural to you on that side, and you will use all of your aquired knowledge of the game to make a textbook stroke. you probably will struggle with the power shots though which is normal.
i know it's deviating from the topic slightly as well but it's come up so i'll mention it. i've never really understood the point in putting so much effort into learning to play with your other arm. in the very small percentage of shots you cant play with your normal side you can just whip out the bridge. you could practice opposite handed for weeks yet you can be perfectly comfortable with the bridge with five minutes practice.
don't get me wrong it's good to show off with, but it's usefulness is overvalued.

That's funny. The same thing happens to me a lot too. People think Im nuts! Im right handed, play pool left-handed...but I use the crutch right-handed.

I am just the opposite. I was left handed, and my Dad converted to be a right hander when I was 3 years old, because baseball and softball were family sports, and there were not many left handed gloves back then, and left handers were viewed as 'different'.
But, I still do some things 'naturally' left handed even today, like I play cards left handed, and I could always adapt to sports with my left hand pretty well.
Here's an interesting observation I have made: A person or an animal (dogs) when going up steps lead with the other side, leaving their preferred side on the ground for security and balance. In otherwords, right handers step up first with the left foot, and follow with the right foot. Dogs do the same, so I determined that Buddy, our lil Angel Yorkie, is left pawed.
