I only go there to play in the tournaments, so this hasn't been an issue for me personally - but I think I remember someone (maybe Jaden) posting this exact thread a year or more ago.

And it makes sense that they would tell someone over the phone they wouldn't be allowed to play; it's a risk to their membership-smoking-bypass-thingie if they said "we have a quote-restriction-unquote... but you can come in anyway" to any person that calls.

IIRC, a lot of the locals prefer other rooms for various reasons anyway. I haven't been to the others, so I can't comment on that.

That mean you'll be there Friday as well? Cuz, I think we have some one hole to get to; since we missed it at the DCC. ;)
 
Maybe the reason they will turn away someone via phone, but don't turn them away in person,
is because they are overly worried about police or city officials trying to catch them ignoring the law.

It'd be easy for an official to pick up the phone and ask "I can just walk in, right?"
...and then if the employee says yes, they've caught Shooters basically ignoring the "must be a private club" law.

You could do the same thing in person, but nobody would go to all that trouble, so they
figure anyone who shows up in person looking to get in immediately, is legit.

They turned me away in person. That's the only reason I called first this time.

I am going up Thursday and staying till fri after the Calcutta. I will be ready for you and prob in a little better shape than I was in a dcc!

I think it sucks they have the 10 day thing. I don't think it is their fault and just a condition they have to live with and a shitty balancing act of who to tell what to and when. If anyone of us owned the place and had those restrictions to allow smoking we would prob do it as well. it is nice they get the exception a couple times a year to have the big tournaments without the waiting.
 
I get that there are regulations in place that the business must adhere to.

I work for the government of the greatest shiddy in the land and the rules is non-negotiable.

No excuse for telling someone to come on down though. Also non-negotiable.
