At this point the anon nits on this site have my goat... If you can't or won't sign your name to what you post you can pretty much go get bent.... This goes to it'sfroze and pretty much any of the other wastes of bandwidth on this site,,, If olddumbass...err nineballer can crow about his dvd purchases I'd say crow about who he is.. If you are ashamed of that or afraid of being called out in real life you need to tuck your tampon string in and quit posting.....

No name no respect starts here... Too many of us will stand toe to toe with the world knowing who we are.... You anon fuggers from here forward get lumped into one user name... douchebag001......

Chris.....

I was hoping this was an aiming thread or a dominant eye thread, so they could post and start another flame fest. It's what they do. They're good at it and piss everybody off besides you, too.

Think about it...where else can you share your misery with hundreds of others and never have to leave the house? sFun_comp.gif

Best,
Mike

not always as simple

Chris,

I just dropped my security standards a bit in the last few months. After having a several hundred dollar bounty on my head in a hacker's forum to get my personal information and having had a half dozen or so death threats I didn't give out information anywhere for a long time. The easiest way to stalk somebody down is to do a few searches and find a place where they use their real name.

Two people I knew had internet stalkers show up at their front door. A stalker from this forum threatened to kill me and he was only fifty miles away. If he showed up on my front doorstep I wanted the defense that my personal information was concealed and he had to go to quite a bit of effort to unearth it.

I remember when my friend JoeyA was raising cane about anonymous posters many years ago, not realizing that JoeyA didn't mean a thing to most of us, he was anonymous too. I have no idea if you are Chris Renfro or one or both names are false either. Quite a few handles are a first and last name that don't belong to the user. They know it makes them look legit. If I change my handle to Howard Utley then the Hu I use would make sense and many would say "Ah". Thing is my name isn't Howard Utley nor do I have Asian blood as many have assumed over the years seeing my nickname.

Trolls have to be dealt with on a one by one basis and unfortunately full names don't mean a thing if someone wants to play games.

Anonymous posting can facilitate discussion or exchange of information based on what is said rather than who says it. We all tend to view another person’s words and actions through filters. The filters are the preconceptions and prejudices formed by our prior knowledge of that person or other persons with similar characteristics – age, sex, race, nationality, wealth, income, marital status, family history, occupation, avocations, height, weight, and on and on. But with anonymous posting, one’s words have to be evaluated solely in terms of the quality of the thought and expression.

Over time, of course, an anonymous poster creates a posting history or profile that, in itself, creates preconceptions and prejudices that filter what that person subsequently posts.

Obviously, it can be useful to know who the poster is when trying to evaluate the accuracy, wisdom, or credibility of what he is saying. But for most topics, that’s not essential. Whether the poster is Joe Championplayer, Joe Supercuebuilder, or Joe Shmoe, let’s evaluate what is said rather than who says it.

[Repeated from an earlier thread.]

Anonymity reduces circle-jerking and ass-kissing. :canoodle:

I say do away with avatars and screen names completely. Then people could be judged solely on the strength of the content they post. 4chan works that way.

People who post drivel and nonsense get jumped on quick there and told to "lurk moar". Many here should Lurk Moar. Drama queens everywhere...

If the aforementioned posters are truly trolls, why feed them?

As for anonymity itself, its only a problem on unmoderated forums. If you know who "they" are and you start tracking "them" down, you just let them get to you. You gave them what they wanted. Stalking is not the answer, whether identified or not.

I posted under my real name on the old usenet newsgroup rec.sport.billiard years ago. Then I came across Fast Larry and a few others of ill repute, that were just plain nut cases. Some of them, including FL, have been here, most of them banned permanently. Some here know who I am, some do not. While I admire your effort and attitude, it's not going to change anything.

Put all of the anons on ignore then. That'll learn 'em.

I've been using the internet since about 1990. If you think I'm just going to post my name all the time, you're on drugs.

I give my name out to those I know. A name and location can drum up a lot of info these days on the net. This board has plenty of crazy wakadoo losers. I have wife and young kid. Some of the aholes on here have no need or reason to know my name. Nobody is going to change that. However, I don't think I have ever said anything on here I wouldn't say to someones face. If I offered weight to someone I stand behind it, so I am perfectly fine with my anonymity on here. But with plenty of positive itrader and a ton of friends, I think I am ok.

oh yeah, and i thought this was going to be a thread about a straight stroke and not using some toi to pocket balls. I got excited.

hahah guess it should have been... Just was a little tweaked from the ABR program last night and am in agrreement with Mark Griffin on the fact that many people will hide here and play keyboard cowboy but would not walk up and say some of the drivel they let fall out of there mouths within arms length of the people they want to talk about....

Anon has it's place but using it as a way to hide from the fact that your alligator mouth would get your hummingbird ass in trouble out in the real world is pretty lame.....

So you're saying that you'd prefer to use your fists instead of words then? Because that's what it's sounding like to me.

Chris I hear you loud and clear, and boy do I understand!

I understand the anonymity and it's usefulness. However, there are far too many posters these days who use it for negative purposes. Premature statements are made and represented as fact before they are given any real scrutiny at all. They just don't pass the smell test.

But, many who read those statements take them as fact and go off the deep end. Often causing harm to businesses and reputations.

I agree Chris, that many of those statements would likely not be made if the author was known and would have to back them up.

Nope.. Never been a fighter... Just know it's a lot harder to disrespect a man to his face.. I also know that repurcussions don't have to be physical... If I had 2 friends who acted in public the way some of the members act when they are playing keyboard cowboy here I would be short 2 friends and they likely wouldn't have anyone to hang out with but each other..

Comes down to this on this particualr subject.... The anons that use the anonymity to act like asshats are likely only hiding their name on here... In the real world I am betting they are hiding their true nature instead since their names and faces are a known.......

Chris

This is all ample reason for why there is an ignore function. Identify a troll, go to ignore. I agree with you 100% Chris, there are several of them here that are a complete waste of skin and oxygen.

Lol. WHAT??

what an embarrassing thread. Is this 1952? If you want the likes of Comrade Barton providing one-way communications to the masses, good luck to you. Personally, those that add the least to this place are those that have something to sell, and those that do nothing but shill them.

And here comes a perfect example to the point I was making..... Thanks
