Has anyone ever tried or was asked to put a short ivory ferrule on a shaft ?
You Know, like the break cues & jump cues have.

I was just wondering how it would hit and play as I love ivory ferrules.

imo, ivory plays better in the .6-.8" range.i know some will disagree, but for my stylr or whatever you want to call it,i like shorter ferrules when they are ivory.

they might hit slightly harder, but to me they play better with less deflection.

I like Ivory ferrules too and also, I perfer shorter ferrules whether it's Ivory or not.

IMHO it would play fine - 1 in ferrules are fairly recent<40-ish years>
Rambows had aprox 3/4 in ferrukes as a rule.

3C cues often have 1/2 in or less, often quite a bit less.

The only application I have seen short Ivory Ferrules used in was for 3-Cushion Cues. I have built two 3-Cushion Cues for friends, and I put Ivory Ferrules on them as requested, the ferrules were .495 in length.

I used a Custom 3-Cushion cue that was built in Turkey for a template for my tapers, length, and the Ferrules. The ferrules on these cues are threaded and of course not capped.

To answer your question, if a short Ivory ferrule can take the stress on these cues, I do not think you will ever have a problem.

Hope this helps, Craig

I've gone as small as 10mm diameter by .5" long. The guy I did it for TRIED to break it, and it took him about 6 months of breaking with it to crack it.

1/2" ivory ferrules...

i played a couple of games with john showman's playing cue down in florida the last time i was down that way. he has 1/2" or shorter ivory ferrules on his cue, they seemed really stable, but it was not used to break with. the short ferrules seemed hard to get used to, at least for me. i felt like i was almost ready to foul the cueball during setup and practice stokes, i guess just an optical illusion because it feels like you are getting way to close to the CB, and i actually did a couple of times...JS
