Short Stop Speed!!!!

The Shortstop is usually the first guy to try out the road player who has just arrived in town. And the road man doesn't have to always like it. :D

Probably as good a description as you are going to get.

Being a shortstop is a negative term for most, but, is actually a pretty good compliment. At most any big tournament, most are shortstop speed.

You got a few wrong

I think it depends on your area somewhat. I mean I'm around lets see here.. Larry Nevel, Jeff Abernasty, Tony Watson, Mike Davis, Ron Park, Kelly Fisher, Sparky Ferrel, etc. etc.

Most of them are pros or always get top 3 in regionals. i think they're better than shortstop but a shortstop here would get beat by them regularly in regional tourneys :D

Mike Davis, Kelly Fisher, Larry Nevel and Tony Watson are pro level and Jeff, Ronny and Sparky are shortstop level along with Brady.

been hashed before

A search will turn up an old thread or three discussing this, some at great length.

My opinion, a shortstop is the guy the road player or the professional passing through on the QT dodges when he hits town. Play the shortstop and win or even lose a hard fought battle and watch all the smaller fish swim away! Shortstops are the big fish in the local pond.

If you play the shortstop, you play him after all the other action has dried up.

(edit) Of course coming in and dumping to the shortstop early on for small to medium bucks can work!(grin)

Thirty some years ago Diliberto looked at me and said, "Jay you're nothing but a Shortstop and that's all you'll ever be". I felt honored!

throwing females in this question really messes it up because most shortstops would rob all but the top 2 or 3 woman players, at least thats my opinion!

Back when I was trying to 'make a living' playing with my daddies cue it was always a good move to have the 'book' on the batting order of the community being visited. Paying some jelly for good steerage could increase your wages considerably...LOL Nothing worse than stumbling into cheap action with the local shortstop, winning 20 bucks, having him clock your speed, and then quit you. Your visit is over. A shortstop indeed. The word 'shortstop' has different meanings depending on which side of the fence you stand.

they tried it recently

I walked into a well known pool room where I wasn't known and started testing the tables a bit. Someone with a bit of a name came over and wanted to play some very cheaply. We did, but neither of us was fixing to show any real speed. The game was one pocket and when he had announced last game I took a ball off of the spot with a lot of inside english to kill the cue ball on the end rail and leave the money ball straight in. He had to see a couple more games! Of course I was back off the gas again and he had to guess if I was a one trick pony. :D :D :D
