Shorter Ferrules?

I know shorter ferrules reduce squirt, but how much.

I had a 3/4 in ivory ferrule it didn't seem to squirt much. I was thinking about getting a 1/2 ivory ferrule, are there disadvantages to that?

Thanks

Shorter ferrules are good from a playing standpoint but they don't reduce squirt.
Lowering mass and increasing elasticity of the ferrule material is what does. However you do it.

I have also been considering getting shorter ferrules on a cue I'm having built and haven't had much information as to why to or not to do so. I currently have only played with 1 inch or 3/4 inch ferrules.

If the shorter ones are good from a playing standpoint what exactly do they do for the player?

Also if I'm wrong logically, please let me know but I gathered that the shorter ferrule would have a lower mass then the standard length ones of the same materials.

Thanks for any help you can provide :)

Why have a ferrule at all? Just put on the tip and play...hit so good if you have the right shaft wood.
