Should I get a Viking cue, or something else?

I'm a tournament player and I am looking for a new playing cue. I want it to be great for playing(Not like high-end Predators, but still high quality) and keep it a long time. I am also looking for the price range of up to around 350$. I was looking at some Viking cues and found many in this price range. What do you think? Here are some of the ones I like(In random order):

http://billiardwarehouse.com/cues/viking/viking_v114-bluestain_pool_cue.htm

http://billiardwarehouse.com/cues/viking/viking_v123-BL_pool_cue.htm

http://billiardwarehouse.com/cues/viking/viking_v129-BL_pool_cue.htm

And also a deal I found where you get a free break cue:
http://billiardwarehouse.com/cues/viking/viking_ltd-se50-red_pool_cue.htm

Is that break cue good? I already have a break/jump though, but since it's a bonus... hehe =P...

I know a lot of the extra money goes for decorations in these Viking cues, but what do you think of the quality and performance of these? Have you tried any Viking cues before?

Any other cue brands you would recommend that meet these criteria in terms of price and quality?

Good Luck,
George

I won't recommend a Viking to be a good playing cue if you want to win.

You can get a Erwin cue for less money and will hit better.

Or go with a good cue that has been tested and proven to be good------->

do you seriously believe someone couldn't win with a Viking cue, but that same someone could with an Erwin or any other?

Get whatever ya want kid, but if at all possible, try a bunch to see what feels good to you first.

$350 can get you into a cue you could play for the rest of your life....OR, you could go thru cue after cue, looking for the magic stick only to never find it. There isn't one. Find one that feels comfortable, is appealing to your eye, and play the crap outta that thing. You play well enough, you can win, regardless of what name is written or brand is stamped on the cue! :D

There are many excellent options in the price range. For most, the first choice would not likely be Viking. However, if you want/like Viking, then get a Viking.

Since you said this would be a long term thing I would make further consideration of the matter.

You are totally right :)... I earned my place in the pro leagues with a much cheaper cue...

Oh I see then, I suppose it's a lot about personal preference... What would you recommend?

By the way guys, what about McDermott, Lucasi and of course the one I forgot - Poison.

I am personally biased towards Jacoby....so, I guess I will tell you to give them a look. Check out their website, and see if you like any of their designs. Cool thing about them is that they offer just about any joint configuration you can think of, so, if you like wood to wood big pins or a 5/16-14 steel jointed cues, you can get one of their cues in either of these, or MORE.

Search the buy/sell threads. There are a ton of great cues at the $350 price mark. Viking are great cues, at least the old ones with 3/8x10 pins, but those can be had for $100 or less. I might recommend an older fullsplice Adam cue for under $200. C and D series mcdermotts are generally great cues and under $300, maybe not to many C's, but they can be had. Post a WTB and a $350 max and see what comes your way. It's a buyers market still. In the last 5 years or so, I've picked up a titlist conversion, runde schon, c and d series McDermott, darrin hill, some unknown customs and other goodies for under $175 out of my pocket. Now I generally only spend more than that on a cue if I plan to make $ on them. Right now I'm playing with a phenominal SW tribute by a no name out of florida that I only have $110 into, strictly due to no one really knowing of the cuemaker. There is nothing better than having nice equipment, made with quality woods, high level of craftsmanship at a low price and Made in America. What it all comes down to is buying what plays good for you, and in my case, something that plays great and that I can recoup all of my money, if not make money, when I decide to part ways with it.

I do like Jacoby's too, but I don't think you should spend more than $300 on their cues. And buying new is wasting money unless there is a lifetime warranty or a custom built to your specs.

A beautiful 4 point 4 veneer Jacoby ended last week at $290 on eBay. Just keep your eyes open.

Far as I'm concerned, made in USA Mcdermott or Viking over imported Poison or Lucasi.

I gave my cousin a new Viking (before the ownership change) as a gift.
She loves it...and plays pretty darned sporty with it.

Trusty Rusty said it well...don't look for a magic stick because there is none.

Since you want to get personal...yes get a Viking cue if you want to look pretty. But if you want to win, get something that plays good with a good solid hit.

With Viking it is hit or miss. Some hit solid and some hit like crap. I have a bunch for sale if that's what you want.

Of course I have a couple new Joss cues for $175 shipped too.

All my Dale Perry cues hit better than my Viking cues.

But what do I know...I'm just a player and a dealer.

Okay...if you must have a Viking----------------->

Several things I noticed.
1. They are all Viking.
2. They are all wrapped.
3. They are all blue with the exception of the last one with break cue.

Is there any other stipulations?
Are you stuck on a Viking and blue with a wrap?

My friend loves his dale perry and the other guy on my team swears by his McDermott but I'd take my pechauer over both of them and for the price range there's quite a few options

Nothing wrong with a Viking cue or any of the cues mentiond so far. I can't play anymore (health reasons) but I had two Vikings for years. One was heavy for 3 cushion and one was about 18-19 oz for 14.1. I sold both of them about 20 years later when gave up pool for 9 years. When I got back into pool I bought another mid-line Viking (about $300 I think) and still have it sitting in my case. About 3 years before I quit bought a Cuetec R-360 (all wood $150) that I used with the Cuetec extension and like it a lot. I figure if it's good enough for Shane it good enough for me. Get a cue that you can try out for a few hours. Johnnyt

You said that if he wanted to WIN you'd steer him away from Viking. Well, how about Cuetec then? Generally MOST have a low view of them as well, even MUCH lower than Viking. Yet Shane does ok with one. Allison and Earl did ok....Were/Are they sponsored? HELL YEAH!! Could they have won with a Viking? yep. How about a Joss? yep. McDermott, yep. Schick, Hercek, Szamboti, Tad, Black Boar, Scruggs, Gina, etc. etc. etc. ALL - yep.

that is NOT personal.

Hehe, well I really do like the blue colour ^^...

Well, to be honest, even if I do get to play with the cue for a few hours before I buy it, I can't really judge it that soon... I mean I can see if it's bad or really good, but I can't feel it's full potential until I truly get used to it...

I'm surprised Schon hasn't come up on here. Some dealers on here sell the basic models in the lower $400's, and of course used ones can be had for less.
