Should I go to the US Open or stream it

Hi Everyone. I am on vacation next week and my boss has offered to pay for my hotel stay at the Marriott if I should decide to go watch the US Open in person.

Do those of you who have gone in person as a spectator recommend going?

Are the general admission seats all right or do you recommend getting a reserved seat? not many left.

Are general admission seats bleachers and if so, can you bring in a seat cushion?

Are there fast food places to eat at near by? money is tight.

Roughly how much is the taxi fare from the airport to the conference area?

Thank you for any information. A big part of me would love to go see the action in person.

If you can go see the US Open in person, it is always better than watching on stream. It's hard to substitute watching pool, or anything for that matter, in person. The best part is to watch these guys match up at night at Q-Masters.

General admission seats are all right during the week. Once it gets to the end, it's crowded.

I believe you can bring a seat cushion. I thought I had seen them.

Wa-Wa is within walking distance. So is Taco Bell, Burger King, Subway, etc... but these places are just little farther.

Not sure how much is the taxi.

Thanks for replying.

How far is Q-Masters from the conference center? and at night, are you talking about after midnight?

Q-Masters is about 15 minutes away from the Convention.

Money matches all vary. I found that they usually happen in the evening starting around 8PM and on.

If you've never been to a professional tournament then you should definitely go. If you have, then you should definitely go since you already know it is a lot better than watching an individual match on a stream. ;)

Viewing in person is always better than the stream.
Much, much better. Hanging around the players between matches can be worth the price of admission. During matches you get to watch what you think is important and not what the camera man wants you to see.

To the OP: If you arrive at the airport on Saturday early you could just be on the look out for anyone with a pool cue in the baggage claim area. I got a ride at Derby City (Horseshoe) once that way after my arranged ride disappeared. I think a taxi would have to be more than $50. A quick look at shuttle services shows $45 for the Norfolk Airport Connection.

US Open Streaming

Is there going to be a Streaming Option?

I've looked at the official US Open website and didn't see any option for Streaming.

Maybe Accu-Stats? or someone else, if anyone knows.

stream thru accustats will be in high definition and may be the best production and quality in the history of the sport. all new cameras are gonna kick ass and you can get special for the week at a pretty good rate
go to accu-stats.com

If you get the stream you will probably get the best quality stream possible from AccuStats. However, you only get to see one match at a time and you don't get to decide what match that is.

If you attend the Open, you get to choose from a number of matches, in each round, and you can sit near any one of them to watch. You also have the option of sitting where you can watch several different matches at a time.

It's a no brainer. Go to the Open!!!

You will see one match with the stream but could see many more live. Plus the streamed match may not be the best one happening at that time either. It is a great event to attend and I highly recommend.

There's nothing like being there.. Been there once, watched it on the stream several times.. No comparison to being there.. IMHO

US Open

I've been lucky enough to have gone to the US Open the past 20 years and I wouldn't miss it except for an emergency. The convention center is the perfect place to hold this tournament and the atmosphere is just perfect for big time pool. If you care about watching pro pool this is the place and the best 9 ball tournament in the US. Barry and Shannon put on quite a tournament. There's nothing like being there and getting to pick the match you want to watch until you get down to the end and then it's the players who've played the best during the week.

If you can make it to Q-masters you'll be treated to one of the best pool rooms around and probably get to see some good match ups there also.

GO if you can!

if u wanna save money stream, but u cant beat the experience live. Especiallly the first few days when everyone is playing on all tables!

Thank you everyone for the replies. I have decided to go and watch in person. I will be driving down Sunday...not looking forward to the 12 hour drive, but at least I will have my own car and can make it over to Q masters or any where else for that matter.

I am going to drive down Sunday and return Friday. I don't have a reserved seat and figure by the weekend I won't be able to see much as a general admission customer. So I will drive home Friday and watch Saturday from the comfort of my own home online.
