Should i or should i not play with my palmer?

That makes me feel a whole lot better about playing with it, thank you again buddy ;)
And thanks everyone for the replies! I truly appreciate them. I also have the original case it was carried in back in the 70's....I think ill buy a new case and play with it like popops wants me to

I don't know if this relates to Palmers or not, but I'll let 'er rip anyway...

What kind of case is it that you have? Is it original? I had a rectangular wood one fitting just a shaft and the butt. It was covered in black vinyl. Inside was all red felt with a slightly angled divider to separate butt and shaft. Exterior had 2 chrome clasps and a handle. There was no name or mfr identification I can recall.

Tate, does this mean anything relative to Palmers?

this is a serious question. my dad gave it to me to play with. he just wants me to take care of it.
on the other hand i get everyone else saying i should put it up and never use it.
many of the owners of billiards and good pool players tell me this.
thing is im not gonna ever get rid of this stick so whats the point of caring about what its worth?
all i care about is if the shaft gets a wobble can it be fixed, i just want it to last forever ya know? if its not built very strong then maybe i do need to buy a different stick and put the palmer up..:frown:

suggestions?

If you think about it, since you don't plan on selling the cue, it doesn't really make sense to not play it in order to prevent it from becoming unplayable.

If anything, I'd be worried about warpage due to atmospheric conditions, especially if it's just sitting around in a case.

I agree with all the posts. I only own two cues that are un hit and they will be going away. I spank some balls every night with a different stick. Model #16 I bought new/ Model M/ Model H/ and a model 20 I just picked up that used to belong to Tate. All get hit on a regular basis. I believe that is what they are made for and just about any Palmer can be fixed if need be.
Randy

Congrats on the Model 20 Randy - that's a very nice cue and it's one of the ones in my avatar! It's also one of the Model 20's on my web site. I still have the other one.

You have some great Palmers. My H is one of my favorite cues of all time.

Probably not. Most Palmer cases were 1X2. I haven't been able to find a 1X1 from the 1960's - and I've looked hard.

The cases for all those Classic years, 1960s' through 1980's, were made by the Fine Brothers in Brooklyn. Palmer also sold their cases to Gus Szamboti and George Balabushka, who also sold them with their cues.

Palmer started marking their cases with a logo in 1970 or so but their unmarked cases are pretty distinctive. There are maybe 5 or 6 different latches they used over those years.

If the cue feels good when you play with it and brings out your best game, then by all means play with it!!! Especially since you intend to keep it forever. Take care of it, and it should never warp on you. I would play with any cue I own, but I tend to find a player, and stick with it for the good of my game. Enjoy, Palmers are cool!!!

Even know it is a old cue , you can still have a new shaft made to look just as the original with the same joint collar to play with now so you dont do any damage to the original. Take it to any cuemaker or repairman that is capeable of makeing shafts, most can copy any ring work. ,,,

I agree with the rest of the post responses. PLAY IT well!!! I have a Model D that I bought from another league player 25 years ago, I started playing APA league in July, and played the first 2 seasons with it. It plays well and I had a local cue maker make up a new laminated shft with matching pearl ringwork, it looks and hits great. You must enjoy this piece of pool history.

Yes. Play with it. You will really enjoy it. You needn't worry about replacing the shafts or wearing out the cue. There are plenty of great cue people that can refurbish the cue and make new shafts for you. You are indeed fortunate to have such a gift. It is in fact priceless as it came from your Father, and hopefully you will pass it along. Enjoy and Play Well.

Life is short, I always draw the analogy, ''If you had Angelina Jolie'' in bed, would you ''play with her'' or just wrap her up in bubble wrap and throw her in back of the closet ???

''Ride that *****'',,,Like ''Freddy the Beard'' always says...''You can thank me later"".......

Dude, she's nasty. Have you ever seen her without all her tats covered up and her face not made up? She's beyond trailer trash.

palmers

Thanks Chris. I think you know the 20 I bought, I had been looking for a while. Your knowledge and willingness to share it has been the catalyst for many a Palmer collector including myself. THANK YOU
Randy

is that a palmer case?

That is indeed a Palmer, I have the exact same one. Bought it new at Palmer Video rental/Billiard Lounge in Elizabeth NJ after I got out of the Marine Corps in the early-mid 80's. It is a very cool case!
