this is a serious question. my dad gave it to me to play with. he just wants me to take care of it.
on the other hand i get everyone else saying i should put it up and never use it.
many of the owners of billiards and good pool players tell me this.
thing is im not gonna ever get rid of this stick so whats the point of caring about what its worth?
all i care about is if the shaft gets a wobble can it be fixed, i just want it to last forever ya know? if its not built very strong then maybe i do need to buy a different stick and put the palmer up..:frown:

suggestions?

Palmer

Palmers play great. That's what they were made to do. I say, take her out for a drive and you will probably be pleasantly surprised.

Usualy EVERY cue is a player- it just have to find his *friend* :)
If you love it -play with it bro.
For sure there would be some ppl who would recommend you to keep this cue just in your case (collection or so). But it s all about you.
I would use almost every cue if i would feel right with it-except those crazy 20.000 ivory-bombed cues which are really just an item-of-art for a collection :-)

Do how you feel- just decide what hurts you more: To let it at home...or to play with it^^

Play with it, thats what it was made to do. Just don't take your eyes off of it for too long as it might grow legs.

i'm definately not breaking with the cue, but should it get a wobble in the shaft, is there a way of fixing that?

Pretty hard to take a warp from a shaft.
If the shaft rolls straight now and you want to preserve it, (which I would) maybe get a cue maker to match a new shaft for you or try a Predator or OB shaft.

As old as that cue is if it's not warped already it probably never will be if you take care of it. As for playing with it, yes, that is what it was made for.

You have it for the memories. Play with it! Every time you look at it you'll get a good, warm, loved feeling... you'll get love from the cue. Your dads love will radiate to you and from you as you use the cue and you'll play more relaxed and relaxed is better.

Your grip will be relaxed and your stroke will be smooth. Use your beloved cue... and insure it.

The main value to you is in the inherent qualities but it's also worth a little money so don't forget that aspect... just don't put it away because it has some $$$$ value. Have fun. Feel good. Use it. Life is short.

Angelina Jolie,,,,,,,,,

Life is short, I always draw the analogy, ''If you had Angelina Jolie'' in bed, would you ''play with her'' or just wrap her up in bubble wrap and throw her in back of the closet ???

''Ride that *****'',,,Like ''Freddy the Beard'' always says...''You can thank me later"".......

I don't see the point in owning a pool cue that you can't play with.

There are a lot of other things that are more asthetically pleasing than a pool cue that can't be played with. If you want a monument, buy a monument, then admire it while playing with your Palmer!

I have a '61 Falcon that I drive in the rain, snow, everything. Cars were meant for driving and pool cues were meant for smacking balls around a table.

How much enjoyment will you get from that cue when it sits untouched and how much enjoyment will you get from playing with it? To me its a no brainer.

I say. Do as your Dad asked.
Play with it. And take care of it.

I would add. If your out and about. Keep an eye on it.

P.S. I'm adoptable if he has another. :-)

If you hadn't tried it yet and determined how it fits your game, you just have to. If it plays to your liking, I'd play it. My cue was sold to me 36 years ago as a Palmer, but it appears to be from Palmer influences. Regardless, it's a brick shit-house.

It's apparrent you're going to take care of it. It's not going to warp after all these years unless you do something silly. Keep it in a good case, keep it horizontal or vertical and in climate control. Good luck you lucky dog!

The model you have is a really good player - it would be a shame not to use it. Your dad gave it to you to play with I'm sure. They're plenty strong - anything on it that breaks can be repaired except the forearm neck area. Just try not to leave it in a hot car during on hot days or car trunk or moist area - that's what contributes to warping - keep it inside the house.

If the acrylic window breaks, I have replacements. I also have extra original shafts for your model and other parts. I usually don't sell them but I would for you if something happened.

"too good to use"

I have had a few things that were pretty special. An over and under shotgun that handled like an extension of my hand. It had exchangeable choke tubes so I used it for doves, ducks, squirrels, anything I hunted with a shotgun. I bought it to hunt with not to sit on the mantle.

Years later although I knew better I carefully preserved a world class custom rifle barrel. Like a perfect cue or violin there is a little black magic involved in building a perfect rifle barrel and a maker can make twenty or two hundred from the same lot of metal and one be perfect. This one was capable of winning anywhere and too good to use in practice or local and regional matches. When I quit benchrest I let it go to a friend with the rifle and other barrels for $150! It was worth thousands to me, but only if I used it.

The Palmer from your dad isn't the cue to take to league night at the bar but it is definitely the cue to take to the pool hall and big events and be treated with the respect you will naturally show it.

If you like the way it plays there is no reason not to play with it. Store it properly. Don't leave it leaning against a wall.

I play with a Madden that was built for me. Whenever I play it plays. League, bars, everywhere. Its worth a lot of money but there's no price I can put on how it makes me feel. We are only in this mortal world once. God gifted us with passion and if that cue adds passion to your game don't waste it, devour it. Don

I guess the only reason you may not want to play with it is if your dad never did and it is in mint/new condition and meant to be a collectable. It sounds like he did play with it so please enjoy it. You have a great cue there - use it!

Cue Play

I agree with all the posts. I only own two cues that are un hit and they will be going away. I spank some balls every night with a different stick. Model #16 I bought new/ Model M/ Model H/ and a model 20 I just picked up that used to belong to Tate. All get hit on a regular basis. I believe that is what they are made for and just about any Palmer can be fixed if need be.
