Two, the economies of the poorer Asian countries aren't as robust as most Western countries. Therefore, lots of young people do not have a lot of things to do, so they hang out in the poolrooms. The same way a lot of us did many years ago in the USA.
You make "living through a depression" sound beneficial.
It takes hours and hours and hours of practice
per day for years
to become and remain a top pool player. Western players have way more things on their minds than pool because they usually have another way of making money besides pool. That isn't necessarily the case in the Philippines.

I don't foresee the USA ever being a major force in the pool world anymore, except for a handful of players like SVB, who are committed to put the work in.
Somebody at the top of our *.gov may have just engineered our next large and long depression.

maybe pool has a chance...

Kazakis dogs his brains out under the pressure of this kind of format. If any kind of judgement were being allowed in choosing the team, he would almost certainly never be one of the top five best choices.
That was a young Kazakis.
Shane's not exactly the same Shane in this format but he's still Shane and he sells tickets

That was a young Kazakis
Maybe my memory is failing me or I just missed or am forgetting about some events, but what I seem to remember is that he still has the dog in him big time even to this day when it comes to the biggest pressure situations. He has managed to get there in the biggest pressure moments a time of two anyway, but for every one of those cases there are five other times where he dogs his brains out and throws away his chances. In fact, off the top of my head I'm not sure I can think of a player who is consistently more drastically affected by the biggest pressure situations.

I'll take Raga over Bernie or Roda. Hasn't been playing as much as top Filipinos in WNT or PBS but he will drill Bernie or Roda
Yeah, Raga has fallen off my radar a little, with few high finishes of note in recent times and only sporadic participation in the top events. As you are closer to the Filipino pool scene than me, I'll defer to you on this occasion.
