Showman cue

I cannot speak to this particular cue, but I hear what you are saying. Often, cues get passed around because their playability is only so-so. IMO, John’s cues may deserve some extra consideration. There was a time not so long ago when John’s cues were being lapped up by flippers. The reputation of his cues was so strong that people were buying just to turn them around and make $1K. Some were being sold repeatedly in short time frames and each time the price would be bumped by another ~$1K. So being passed around may just have been because of the high demand and low supply.
The first cue of John’s that I had the pleasure of playing with was the other cue in the 6th picture of the original post. I loved playing with it and I think it is one of the prettiest cues I have ever seen. I tried my best to buy the cue from the owner, but it got traded away and its price quickly jumped beyond what I was willing to pay. I am still a bit sick over not being able to own it. I eventually made a deal on a different used Showman cue that lives up to my expectations. Not the same, but a great cue in its own right.
IMO, you should buy cues based on your own tastes in aesthetics and on your own feel for playability. I have been happy with the cue I landed. It is not for sale.
Some or most of us are sick when it comes to cues, we love them but love to get other ones also, so we find ways to make that happen. No cure for us either,lol.
