Showman vs Wayne

If you could order any cue you wanted from John Showman or Thomas Wayne which cuemaker would it be and why?

My favorite style cue is traditional points, veneers, fancy trim rings and I'd go with John Showman in a second as my pick to build me a new cue over Thomas Wayne. I don't have a thing against Thomas, but John builds the type cues that are my favorite plus when you factor in the fantastic resale value of Showman cues it's an easy decision!

Well said. Johns cues play great too. Nice feel to them.

Proof went to the highest bidder....3 times!

Thomas Wayne.

I love traditional cues as much as the next guy but in reality, LOTS of guys can make a traditional cue and LOTS of guys can make a great player. Thomas is perhaps the most arrogant, egotistical guy in the cue game today (and that is VERY debatable) but regardless, there are certain things he can do with a cue (design and execution-wise) that the vast majority cannot. And its not like I'd be asking the guy to be my best friend or to give me etiquette lessons. I'd just be asking him to build a cue. So TW gets my vote.

What I find very interesting about this thread is that a LOT of people are quick to say Showman. And the reason I find it interesting is that a lot of the 'artistic cue' guys like Thomas, Jerry McWorter, Richard Chudy, Paul Drexler, etc. seem to think (at least in the Round Table video) that the market is headed in a direction AWAY from traditional designs (like John Showman's cues) and more towards artistic designs... like theirs.

Clearly, they are mistaken.

Great thread, btw.

great point and I agree.

TW. I like the mans style in general. He is very smart and very blunt, what's not to like  And if I got one of his cues it would be a very simple unadorned cue. Of course I typically buy full splice sneakies from the blank-builder (or someone very close) so I don't think I'll ever have either a TW or a JS.

Showman. Thought that's just a dream for me. But I never dreamed of any TW's cue.

I watched this and really questioned TW's concept that a cue's playability is all about the top 8" of the shaft. you can get that line at the beginning

I thought it was hilarious that this was sponsored in part by OB cues and the group spends over half a hour slamming low deflection cues!

john we did discuss that you had forgotten to email me back..and you said that you needed to get back with me by email...that is the last thing we talked about on cues....not punching you in the gut just the way it went down...and yes the vodka was good....

showman without a doubt. execution and craftsmanship wins out every time. the fact that john is also a great guy is a plus!!
