how about the little whitish pock marks? Im seeing a lot of that on a pretty new cloth, and wondering it's from ball jumping, backspins, masse shots, etc or something with the newer Simonis cloth?

I like to use one of those little brushes for cleaning lint off clothes on my snooker cloth Just gently. Its the type that collects one way and then you rub the lint off with your hands. I'm not seeing it collect a lot of material to suggest it's causing damage. excessive brushing might wear the cloth until it becomes fuzzy. covering up when not using, with a tarp helps.

Good to see they're taking responsability for this. Personally, I'd still be pissed, unless they're also mailing a check to cover time and labor.

As an aside, does anyone else feel that the pool world is obsessed with brand? I see a lot of shit products out there whose only selling point is the brand name printed on them; $20 pieces of chalk is probably the best example. I've heard a lot of folks say that an $80 set of dynasphere's is every bit as good as a $350 set of aramiths. As far as cloth goes, I've heard good things about championship and have had good experience with royal pro.

I just heard back from Alfred at Simonis. Turns out my cloth was from a defective roll (id’d from the serial number visible under black light), and they’re going to replace it at no charge.

Sure like to get a hold of Simonis people and see what they can do to correct this for me, and everyone else! That's probably impossible.

Take pics, use black light to get your serial number, and call them.

UPDATE JAN 22, 2023: I just heard back from Alfred at Simonis. Turns out my cloth was from a defective roll (id’d from the serial number visible under black light), and they’re going to replace it at no charge. 👍

I had new Simonis 860 installed 3 months ago on my home table. All I’ve had before is 860HR, and I dont remember it fuzzing up like this. I vacuum occasionally with light strokes and a horsehair brush attachment, no rotor.

It plays fine, and looks great from a normal viewing distance, but I wonder what you guys think… should I reach out to Simonis about it? The serial number of the roll is in the UV pic below, so I know it’s genuine, and I know it wasn’t installed upside down (the back is much fuzzier).

The pic with the rail is to show a comparison of my 4-yr old 860HR still on the rails, which were still in good shape so I didn’t have the guy change them.

My table light isn’t on in these, only window light so the fuzz could be seen better.

Should this update be dated January 22, 2024? You wrote 2023 but it was posted January 22,.

Just received my replacement 860 from Simonis.

Here are pics of it compared to the 860 I bought last October. Both pics are brand new cloth, not installed or stretched, under the same lighting conditions (flashlight straight towards the camera to show any fuzz present)

It’s great that they stood by their product but the cloth is less than half the cost of the total job to recover the table. Are they covering the total cost to recover?

Maybe it’s just me, but the replacement doesn’t look much better.

How much do you pay for a recover?

Both look perfect under normal table light, and the old cloth still plays fast and true. I’ll probably leave it on. If you hold both under a table light they both look fine. The views above are basically the harshest possible light with high magnification and will show even the tiniest bit of fuzz - I see a big difference in the new cloth.

Gotcha.

My mechanic charges $800, Simonis 860HR included.
