SIMONIS FUZZ

UPDATE JAN 22, 2024: I just heard back from Alfred at Simonis. Turns out my cloth was from a defective roll (id’d from the serial number visible under black light), and they’re going to replace it at no charge. 👍
-----------
I had new Simonis 860 installed 3 months ago on my home table. All I’ve had before is 860HR, and I dont remember it fuzzing up like this. I vacuum occasionally with light strokes and a horsehair brush attachment, no rotor.

It plays fine, and looks great from a normal viewing distance, but I wonder what you guys think… should I reach out to Simonis about it? The serial number of the roll is in the UV pic below, so I know it’s genuine, and I know it wasn’t installed upside down (the back is much fuzzier).

The pic with the rail is to show a comparison of my 4-yr old 860HR still on the rails, which were still in good shape so I didn’t have the guy change them.

My table light isn’t on in these, only window light so the fuzz could be seen better.

Wow! I have 860HR installed in 2020 and it’s as smooth as glass. Those photos are crazy.

Update: I called Simonis US, nobody answered but I left a vm. A couple hours later a very nice guy named Alfred called me back, and was very interested to hear about my issue. He asked me to email pics and receipt, which I did, and he plans to send to the factory for their opinion then get back to me by next Thursday.

So, we’ll see, and I’ll update again.

My almost 10 year old 860HR, although showing some wear still plays extremely well. No pilling, no fuzz. I am really interested in hearing what Simonis has to say as I am close to recovering my table.

This is my 2.5 year old 860, yours looks like a lot of the recent complaints I’ve seen elsewhere.

My 860 is 12 years old and has never had fuzz once. I use a vacuum on mine. I've also played on both 760 and 860 in commercial rooms since the 90's and have never seen fuzz once.
Can you take a pic of your 860 similar to the way I did, with table light off, phone camera down on the table, and light coming from the side towards the camera?

My cloth looks great until I do that. Even in pics, with the table light on, the fuzz isn’t visible in pics.

Would you be able to take a couple pics with similar lighting as mine? Table light off, camera down low near surface, side light coming towards the camera.

The reason I ask is that my cloth looks pretty good when the table light is on. It’s nearly impossible to see the fuzz without light from the side.

Mine had a slight fuzz when I got the table about 6 months a go. From what I’ve read post flood it’s not unusual. Their quality has been a little off.

Wow. I installed my own 860 HR during COVID when the lockdowns were still in progress and mine doesn’t look like that.

IIRC, it was reported in this forum, that the commercial looms were damaged beyond repair, during the flood. They were replaced with new machines, and the cloth is not quite the same.

Those are the biggest pictures I could fit here. If anyone wants the full resolution so you can zoom in message me your email.

The problem looks not to be the weaving but the shearing. They shear the play side. That's why its so smooth. Not shearing it properly is why its fuzzy. I've played on post-flood HR and it was fine. Just my WAG but i'd venture that some 860 is not getting sheared properly if at all.
