I saw a video on you tube where a Diamond table mech. is stretching Simonis about 3 inches. Is that a good rule of thumb for maximum stretch on Simonis 860?

It can be done upto about 3-1/2" with help, practice and proper technique for a consistant stretch. most get it about 2-3/4" Best way is to follow Glens way for the best play with maximum stretch.

That was on a 7ft slate, the stretch was 2" with Simonis 860 Tour Blue:grin:

For just a moderately played table at home which would be better the 860 or 760 and what is the difference.

Ya, With a canvis puller... :ok:

What is the difference between HR and 860?

860.....90% Wool - 10% Nylon
860HR..71% Wool - 29% Nylon

860HR...Specially made for high resistance to ball marks and enhanced durability.....Speed rated faster then standard 860 but slower then 760.

I took this info from poolfelt.com

I have no first hand knowledge.....

The other difference is that HR is available in 4 colors, 860 in 20.
No difference in price.

For all around pool games > 860
For mostly straight, 1P or 8B > 760 (faster)
Dartman, which is your choice for all around with an emphasis on 14.1 and 8-Ball? ;) Could 860HR be a better choice based on the above quotes?

To state an opinion I put HR and 860 in the same (all games) category so I wouldn't say HR is a better choice for straight and 8b. Stick to 760 if these are the games of choice.

darn, I still play some rotational games to switch to 760... :) Thanks for replies.
Earl The Pearl once told us he loves a combination of 860 on the slate and 760 on the cushions to speed up the play a little bit. I have never asked mechanics point of view about that. Might be the right time.

Glen: I am reluctant to argue with the Diamond expert and the general mechanic extraordinaire (and there is no sarcasm in that statement), but the cardboard template looks bigger than 2 inches, or that guy has some very small fingers. (His four fingers span the template.)

Could it be a 9 ft table with a 3 inch stretch template?

I looked at the Video again, you're right, it's a 9ft slate, 4 bolts per rail, and on that cloth the stretch was 3".

So is Diamond using your stretch method, haven't seen a video yet. Hint Hint.

Yes, I did teach the Diamond factory mechanic's how to stretch and glue the bed cloths on all the one piece slates back in 2000, but today they've evolved into the way they are installing the cloth now. Not what I'd teach though because a one way fits all is not going to work with Simonis 860 Green/Blue or HR, as they don't use a stretch index to calculate the stretch, nor to they pre measure the slack in the side pockets. Mike is a pretty good table mechanic, that's who was installing the cloth in the video, if I could get to spend a little more time with him, his game would pick up a little bit more, but at the time I'm at the factory he's usually gone and vice versa. Mike didn't work at the factory when I first taught them how to install the bed cloths, and my method over time has been kind of distorted with the changing of employee's.

cloth

someone explain in detail the variants in weight of cloth, and mateiral mixtures; i.e
24oz , 70% wool, 30% nylon, or 19 oz, 80% wool 20% nylon. by explain i mean what does each value really contribute to the wear resistance, the speed of cloth, the durability, and the like. gerald
