I have had a few elaborate cues but i find myself going backwards and appreciating simpler cues. I have 3 cues now a Searing which is my most elaborate but still a simple 6 point forward and six back, a JR full splice and a Eddie Farris curly maple player. Is this just me or are some of you others doing the same?

I have found myself doing the same. My first custom has a ton of MOP dot inlays and checked diamonds in it. The one I am having finished now is a full splice with veneers, linen wrap and ivory Hoppe ring. My personal taste in cue design has definitely gotten more simple.

First cue I bought was simple points/veneers very little inlay on the butt. My next 2 had alot more inlay, and now I found my personal taste is more simple. Classic looking. Points veneers/more of a view if the natural wood character, hope ring.

Before i really started to collect cues i liked the lets call them artistic cues. Then when i decided to buy i realized that my tastes were for a more simple cue.
like a 4 pointer or a cue with one type of wood with some rings but no points.
Those simpler types of cues are to be admired for their looks and their playability.
My taste now goes for most S cues. But there is Tony and Ernie. Which makes a S. E. T.

I'm with you on this. I have a fancy Ed Prewitt cue and a real nice Bob Runde cue and I play with a wrapless, no inlays Jacoby cue. The Jacoby cue is cheap compared to my other 2 cues, but I enjoy it much more than the other cues.

You're not alone. I also would bet the same is true for our taste in cars. As a youngster, I liked mods and flash and flair. But now, not so much. Simple and plain are elegant in their own right. I think over time our tastes become more refined. What's on the inside matters more to me now.
As far as cues go, I'm wanting to have a collection that represents a variety of exotic and beautiful woods and fine craftsmanship. BEM, cocbolo, kingwood and many more are elegant in their own right. Flair isn't necessary.
