I am designing a cue, and want to be able to send the cuemaker what I am wanting in an email. What is a very simple program you can get (for free preferrably) from the internet that I can use to show exactly what I am wanting? Any help will be much appreciated....Thanks guys!

Hmmmm....

Quick question, since any good design program will be neither simple nor free...

Why not buy a pawn shop plain-jane and some construction paper and layout the design on it? Shouldn't take too long and by the end of it you'll realize how difficult it is for a cuemaker to get everything laid out properly. After, simply clearcoat the butt and send it to the maker.

Just a thought...

Well, not exactly what I was thinking.....and u can download programs of the internet like a CADD program from a torrent site.....not legal of course and I would never do that.....

But, im wanting to send him in an email in a picture file, what my design is supposed to look like...its kinda too hard for me to explain in an email or on the phone..

I guess I could just draw it on a piece of paper, take a picture of it, and send it that way......just thought of that:thumbup:

Pretty cool site - but it needs a few more woods added. I would like to make one with snake wood.

Yea, I agree....its a cool program for sure...I am wanting something a little more technical i guess....I guess I will download a CADD program..

The things I am wanting are not in this particular program. I know the woods I want but some other designs I am wanting that I think only a cadd will be able to do..

Thanks guys!

About a year or two ago I used the brute force method hinted at by DoubleD to produce the following mockup. I feel like a total geek for doing it, but it was hugely educational.

I agree on that..I may try that and see how it works...

Please don't forget the playability factors

Please remember to always (ask) the cue maker what he thinks. Most have unbelievable ability's matching woods and finishes. ,there Artists !!! They're Machinists !!!! I would put my idea's out there, but final decisions should go to the cue maker-(unless price,or playability is of no matter) Look at guitar makers wood combo's. Why are Bells made from African Blackwood, and on and on. Some cue makers have 35 yrs exp, full splice, 3-piece ,2piece. Wrap less allows more room for design. Have fun mostly Playing and building. Mark- where's the Tar shirt going from other thread? Your friend Mark

No TAR shirt for this thread:(....This design Im wanting is going on another cue from another cuemaker..I am gonan draw it out tonight, then cut it out, and tape it to a cheap cue I have..take a few pics to see how it would look...

And the cuemaker will be able to tell me if what I am doing and the woods involved will be playable or not...

Try this, it's a great simple to use modeling software. It comes with the basics for free, then the bells and whistles cost some money but not much at all compared to real CAD software like AutoCAD or something like that...

I just use the Microsoft Paint software that comes free with windows. I cut and paste different sections of other cue pictures to create the cue I am wanting built. Here is a mock up of a cue that I am having someone make for me now. I then send them all the individual specifications.
