The late Jimmy Reid always said to "address the ball" before you shoot. This means pause while you're eyeballing the shot.

Ronnie does this every single time. Amazing!

JAM -- The O'Sullivan/Wilson match is now over. It was a race to 10 played in two sessions today. Ronnie won 10-6.

Tomorrow will be the second semifinal -- Ding vs. Hawkins -- also played in two sessions (afternoon and evening there).

Then on Sunday will be the finals with O'Sullivan against the winner of Ding vs. Hawkins.

The USA east coast times (EDT) both tomorrow and Sunday look to be 2 am and 7:30 am for the two sessions each day.

Edit -- 1st prize is £200,000.

Which is about $260,000 in real money. (Or €225,000 for those in a different reality.) :p

But while that's a nice payday, it's not the largest top prize in a snooker event. That is still the World Championship, which last April/May had a total prize fund of £2,000,000 (2.6M$) and £425,000 ($555,000) for the winner, Mark Williams.

An O'Sullivan - Ding final would be outstanding IMHO. They have had some memorable battles and both have shown real character in past matches. And of course both are well loved in China

I think JAM got confused by the fact that snooker is always a "best of" (here, best of 19) and pool is a "race to" (here, it would be a race to 10).

I can watch Ronnie play for hours. It is just a thing of beauty.

Bob,

Can you or someone else with snooker rules knowledge comment on the shot at about 39:50? Ronnie had no reaction to the non-call so I clearly don't understand what the rule is (or I am really misunderstand the shot).

The original video from the live stream was taken down. Here is a video with the whole match. Can you find the time of the shot in question? I tried to watch at the approximate time but could see nothing out of the ordinary.

This one has the British commentators which is usually an advantage.

What a fantastic production! CGI is super sweet...

I don’t get why they like mushroomed tips, or why the lights
Under the table...but like the rack drawer!

Do you mean the safety at about 47:10 of the link Bob posted? Unlike in pool, a ball doesn't have to contact a rail after the cue ball hits the object ball. So he played a legal shot (no penalty) by just rolling the CB into a red (when red was "on").

It is about 3:11 in on this one (three hours and 11 minutes).

And for that matter no rail contact at all is required on any shot, except the lag if they use one which they usually don't and they call it something else anyway.

No, I’ve watched enough snooker that the lack of rail contact isn’t an issue for me, nor even the touching ball shooting away is deemed to hit the ball.

Here's the go-to-time link: https://youtu.be/XW4hoSGG7TA?t=3h11m21s

I think he may have shot away from the red to his left, hit the red that he was about half an inch from, and caromed (cannoned) off the red to his left. With inside english and an abbreviated stroke, that doesn't have to be a foul.

It is a shot for which I would not want to be the referee.

Gosh, you are right. I did get it wrong.

The coverage for this tournament sucks. I search and search on Google and Facebook for updates, and they are truly hard to find. When the matches are in progress, I can usually find a video link, but the coverage here sucks.

That said, Ronnie loves China. He has stated he would like to move there. He enjoys the culture.

Chinese love snooker *and* pool. They are putting on some first-class events.

I just wish the coverage was better and easier to ascertain here in USA -- or elsewhere for that matter -- for snooker fans.

I will never forget the opening ceremonies in China of the 2008 Olympic Games. To this day, it's best one I've ever seen. It was amazing --> https://youtu.be/JsDY1Ha83M8

Yes, you are right. I got confused by this announcement from Barry Hearn:

World Snooker supremo Barry Hearn has held his annual World Snooker Championship press conference at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield on Monday.

Of particular note was the revelation that next season’s winner of the blue riband tournament will receive a whopping £500,000 cheque as the top prize, although that had been expected after hinting at such this time last year.

Hearn also promised that there would be an increase in prize funds all the way down the tour structure, with the players lower down the rankings set to be rewarded with higher earnings from the earlier rounds of ranking events.

The match was not perfectly played by either player but there were a lot of interesting frames.

I was so confused about this. I saw the semimatchs was two sessions, Part 1 and Part 2. The lack of coverage of this event sucks for railbirds like me.

I did not understand the "19 games" concept one bit. Now I do.

It's like when they have the scantily dressed girls at the U.S. Open walking around with signs saying "Game 19." What the heck? I don't get it. I just want to know the score. I don't care how many games they've played. I can add the two numbers up in the score. It's crazy.

Ronnie O'Sullivan in the finals! Man, it doesn't get much better than this. Tomorrow!
Tomorrow! I love ya, Tomorrow. You're always a day away.

I have to throw in the proverbial dog picture! :p
