Sinking the 8 on the break, twice in one day.. in a row..

Shortening hurts if they decide to stick a 7 against a 3, and the 3 is really a 4. They only have to win 2 games vs. your 5 and you know that with "you take what you make" rules, often you can start out utterly screwed for a particular rack of 8 ball.

Between that and a scratch on the 8, it's very possible for a 7 to get taken out against a much worse player. I don't mind a handicapping system now but at the time it really chafed my nuts.

When I played in the APA (06-07), we went to Vegas for APA Team Nationals. A 4 on my team had one of the weirdest matches I've ever seen....

Opponent wins the coin flip, and breaks, makes the 8ball, but scratches. 1-0. Teammate breaks, hangs the eight, but makes a solid. He made 2 more solids and played safe. When his opponent kicked he made the 8 ball outta turn. 2-0. Teammate breaks and makes the 8ball. 3-0 in one inning. He wasn't a 4 after that match. We asked about the 3-0 in 1 inning, and were told it was seen as just that, regardless of how it happened! Total of 6 balls made in 3 wins IN 8BALL!!! Ooops, 7 made if you include the cueball on the first break. lol

At a league match some years ago I was on a pretty high powered team. It was the last week of the season and we were in first place with a bullet so it really didn't matter what we did. We started talking about the 8 on the break hitting 2nd ball in. The last set was our break so everyone of us did it. 6 eights on the break in a row!! Not kidding. The other team was to amazed to be mad about it lol That was the earliest I ever saw a league match completed. :)

Also a few weeks ago when my 8 ball break was really suffering for what ever reason I was messing with hitting the 3rd ball in on the break. I did drop two in a row but around here it would do me no good. The 8 gets spotted at just about every league and tournament in this area

What's the chances if you had to guess ( 8 ball )? Bout 1 in a thousand? More?

It just happened. 8 in the left corner, then in the opposite corner consecutively.
I like how nobody answered the question, and all of you bragged about doing it 2, 3 times lmao. The odds of 3 in a row are astronomical more than winning the lottery. Making it once is 1/25 or 1/30 u can't just double that and say 1/50 or 1/60 respectively. If any mathematician can please calculate the odds of 2x in a row, please post the answer.

Nonsense... let's meet and play for money, u can't loose if u make the eight on a whim... I cal bs...

Truth is funny shit happens in pool. If you weren't there why question it? Doesn't mean shit in the big picture, right? I saw a guy make the 9b SIX times in a row in the SAME side pocket in a tournament once. Fact. I was in with the guy who did it and was standing about 5ft away. Of course since science/stats say it can't happen i must be delusional. WTF ever.

Yes it's exciting when it happens, but not as rare as you would think. Personally, I have made the 8 three times in a row, twice. My record is 5 times in one night—a long night. I have also gone months without ever making it. Sometimes the tables and balls are just right for it to go in. I was playing league one night and both teams were practicing and it was made about 6 times in hour before the match and 0 thereafter. Don't let my post kill your excitement—I've been playing 40 years. Now you can expect to make it even more! Good Luck!

In our APA league, one of the better players always does the second ball break, and he gets his fair share of 8OBs. While playing another guy one night, he commented about how the guy that always does it has so many 8OBs in his stats. I also watched Dr. Dave's video about then, so I started focusing on it myself. If you get a good tight rack, you can really get that 8 ball moving with a good second ball break.
So one night I'm playing another one of the top guys in the league, and had a good first rack, so I'm breaking. I went with the second ball break, but for me, I also get a lot of clusters with that break. Sure enough, no 8OB, and some clusters, but they were all his. Won that rack too. Then I made the 8OB the next two racks in a row. I'm on the hill now, and he's completely deflated. Have to say, he racked that last rack just as tight as every other, and the 8 went flying, but didn't go in. He did win a couple before I finished it. That was my only time making consecutive 8OBs in a match.

And for figuring odds of consecutive occurrences, you just multiply the odds of the first event, times the odds of the second event, and so on. For example, the daily Pick-It is three numbers, with 0 through 9 available, so it's 10 to 1 odds. In that case 10 x 10 x 10 makes it a 1000 to 1 shot for picking the pick-it number. It never pays those odds, which is how the states make their money. If you say an 8OB is 25-1 odds, then twice in a row makes it 25 x 25, or 625-1 odds.

If you break from the side, to 2nd ball, it Will happen a lot!

Sadly, the person who started this thread has not been with us for 11 years. The thread is 15 years old. I hope he's doing OK.

We once had a poster claiming he could make the 8 on half his breaks. He was undisuaded by our universal doubt. That could happen with just the right gaps in the rack every time, I suppose. It's not going to happen with a tight rack.

We had a guy on our Busch League (before spa was spa) make the 8 ball 3 times in a row.
This was around 1984, he got to the bar we were playing a couple hours early and was playing this one guy the whole time.
We’ll guess who draws each other in the first match. Craig was a 3 and I don’t remember what the other players handicap was but Craig wins the lag and first break 8ball goes in corner.
2nd game 8 ball goes in the side. 3rd game it went in the corner. He wins 3-0 in, I think they put 1 inning.
The next week he goes up to a 6. We protested on grounds it was luck. They dropped him to a 5. Which was 2 to high.
When we played in the Regional tournament they gave him a plaque.
The match took about 5 minutes.

That was supposed to be APA.

Call it all you want.. it might have been luck and we were all laughing but it happened . To be honest I don’t know who you are and couldn’t give a f#$% if some Nobody like you believes me 😂

Never got 2 in a row, or 2 in the same match. One night, I made one, and had the 8 miss the side pocket by an inch two more times....for whatever reason, it was pretty locked in on that table, that night.

(One of the few times I ever beat a 7 in a match, lol... that young man is now a 650 fargo, fun watching him progress. He wasn't that level at the time of our match, but he was certainly a top 7 in our division.)

Noob comes in, resurects a 6 1/2 year old thread to crow how he beat José Parica with a B&R, then resurects a 15 year old thread to tell us we're all full of shit.

Threre are no second (or third) chances to make a good first impression.

Welcome to AZB.
