SJM Trip Report - 2016 US Open

Hey SJM,

Saw you there, wanted to say hi but the opportunity never presented itself. I regret not making it a point to. I enjoy your posts here.

I have also missed a few chances to meet up with certain members on this board and regretted it.

Stu not only writes a great trip report but he is really cool to hang out with at these events.

Cuebuddy> Looking forward to MC 2017

All the players got paid without issue this yr?

if there were any such snags, I'd imagine they would be more of an oversight and handled promptly with Pat Flemming in charge. :)

back on topic, there were so many great moments but the one that stood out most to me was to see the raw emotion from Shane when he completed his amazing comeback on Jayson in the semi, snapping in the 9b on the break and tearing up a little. And the class shown by Jayson in defeat giving SVB a congratulatory embrace.

In another match, I think vs Alcaide, I witnessed Jayson making some jump shots and safeties that were way off the charts difficult, incredibly impressive.

And as we just saw at Steinway, Jayson went undefeated in that star studded field beating Shane in the final 15-10.

I think we are going to be treated to a lot of fun matches between these two guys for many years to come.

best,

Stangely enough, I failed to mention the play of Chezka Centeno, the new sensation in women's pro pool who turned 18 years old during this year's US Open.

I was most impressed. Though still a bit raw in some technical and tactical areas of the game, she has a stroke to die for and hits the balls firmly and with great confidence.

I've been around women's pro pool since the 1970's and the last teenaged lady that played with a more impressive blend of skill and power was Jean Balukas. Perhaps the teenaged Jasmin Ouschan hit the balls with similar authority to Chezka.

The buzz is real, and this young lady might soon be the best in women's pool. No doubt, Han Yu, Siming Chen, Shasha Liu, Kelly Fisher, Allison Fisher and Ga Young Kim are already on full alert.

Pat Fleming got off to a great start for sure. Though it's surely none of my business, I hope he made all the financial ends meet, too. Pat was a top pro once and is very sensitive to the needs of the players. He runs the "make it happen" events so he is skilled in setting up an arena and is sensitive to the needs of his paying fans.

Barry Behrman's legacy is very secure, but Pat has hit the ground running. Barry would be proud of him.

Your post here Stu is most important and encouraging.

For those that don't know Stu. He is the predominant, prominent attender
of pool tourneys - amongst many other positive influences! For decades. If Stu posts - I recommend all listen. I could say much more @ Stu. He's Aces.

Don't underestimate Stu my friends.

KoolKats Open report

What an awesome tournament!

Venue: I give it a B- rating for viewing. The risers needed to be higher. I, and MANY were craning their necks to view a shot all too often. This is my only complaint.

Hotel: How can you beat taking an elevator from a well-stocked hotel room to the venue? Granted, the view wasn't as good as the Convention Center, but it was good in the beginning, but tough seating when only 1 or 2 tables were playing. Even some of the questionable past venues I got better seating - even if I was part gopher descending risers to front row.

Atmosphere: Attendance was down IMO. Vendors were primarily cue sales. I didn't see any T-Shirt sales. Some book and DVD sales present. Little money games at Q Masters, although I didn't stay late.

Summary: Ridiculous good play. I was there for Wednes thru the finals. The overall feeling from Americans was "How are the Americans gonna beat
the Asian and Euro contingent?

Once again, I made my way into the "back" room of Q Masters. There were a few money games, and some pro's. I won $6. Take that!

What a final 4! To have been there with the likes of Stu was a life memory.

Sorry I missed you for dinner Stu, I looked everywhere for you!
