Ah, one thing I forgot to mention was that Charlie "Hillbilly" Bryant competed for an entire day during the nine ball event wearing overalls. Yeah really. I found it pretty ridiculous, wondering whether there was a Hee Haw reunion in the hotel that I didn't know about. Personally, I thought it looked pretty ridiculous.
I know Charlie is, rightfully, proud of his background, but I don't think this makes a nice impression.

I stated my opinion, which I'm entitled to. Perhaps I'm delusional, but I feel that how the players present themselves can influence the likelihood of onlookers to invest in our sport. It's certainly your every right to disagree with me, and I respect your opinion.
As for Charlie's game, his break is most impressive, as good as anybody's. I also think his kicking is exceptional. He showcased it well in his ten ball match against Immonen in the FATBOY challenge, neutralizing some of Mika's safety play. His runout game is, in my view, just a touch weaker than you find among the game's most elite. I think he has a lot of emotional ups and downs at the table, and that, at times, it hurts him. On the whole, Charlie is a fantastic player with great skills and great knowledge. He's also my friend, and I value his friendship. He and I chatted numeorus times at Derby City, and it was a pleasure, as always.
Of course you're entitled to your opinion, and expressing it. I think that some folks do things to get a rise outta others (including dressing certain ways, etc.), and even if this isn't the case....I don't let it bother me in any way. Plus, as I stated, style is something that's different for all, and if every player at the tourney had tan Dockers and a black Polo.....BOOOOOOORRRRRRIIIIINNNNNGGGG! I agree some folks' styles look goofy to me or you, but having personal style does make things more interesting when it really comes down to it (this comment excludes those I saw walking around with pants/jeans at mid thigh - I don't need to see your underwear!! LOL).

I enjoyed your post very much SJM. I agree 100 per cent that HillBilly should leave the OverAlls at home. He should also forget that Hat. He is a good player and don't need all that BS. I come from the hills of Georgia and that is as hillbilly as you can get. I guess he just wants to be in the limelight.

I normally take a back seat when it comes to criticizing or disagreeing with someone about someone else's fashion but.....
First off, I have to admit that for the most part, the Europeans dressed UP for the tournament and it appears that they do it for ALL POOL TOURNAMENTS, not just their own.
Secondly, while Hillbilly is just being Hillbilly when he wears his overalls, I don't personally appreciate his fashion style with him wearing overalls at a big tournament like this but he is his own man and must make his own way in the world, like all of us. The only reason I actually don't appreciate it is that I think it is unlikely that a typical sponsor will appreciate his particular taste in clothing unless it is a "country folk" type sponsor. Maybe one of the big western music stars might counter my opinion with sponsoring Hillbilly in the future and if that were the case, I could only be happy for Charles Bryant.
Charlie's skills are impressive enough for any sponsor but his dress could turn some potential sponsors off.
IF I WERE A BUDDING POOL STAR, I WOULD DRESS UP FOR EVERY POOL TOURNAMENT, hoping that a business sponsor with deep pockets would see that I have some fashion common sense for business.
The purpose of dressing up for a pool tournament should be to impress others with your sensible fashion style that might be attractive to the mainstream. Jewelry in the eyebrow, dirty clothing, trousers with holes in them, your drawers showing where your pants should be, clothing that communicates entities that are not pool related, T-shirts that look cheap or condescending, caps on backwards and cleavage that is better left to the imagination should be left for your private moments, IMO.
