Sky is a great player but what has Jesse Bowman done in pool, barbox or otherwise in the last few years?

I have never seen him enter the US Bar Box championships, in Vegas at the BCA and VNEA I saw people like Jason Kirkwood and Justin Bergman play and dominate some fields, but Bowman? He has been a name from the past for years now, the mythical supposed top bar box player in the land who never plays anymore. He entered the $2000 added event, and was fairly average at best, losing badly to Sky in that event as well.

This match simply outlined the truth that unless a person stays in action and competes on a regular basis they lose a step and people eventually catch up and surpass them.

I doubt Bowman is top 10 on the barbox in the USA anymore.
 
Amazing. After one match loss and a tournament loss, you doubt he's in the top 10 on a bar table.

Well, you got my money, and probably his also. Line um up.
Nothing mythical about him, he's a player short and sweet. He lost a race to 100 and a tournament match. I don't remember a line forming to gamble with the guy.

His color commentary perhaps isn't quite as good as some in terms of excitement level or good stories and such, but his insights and knowledge based commentary surpass them all and it is even more true and noticeable in games like one pocket.

i agree from what i hear on air his vocabulary and explanations are high in regards to his intelligence! Jj made a believer out of me for his pool knowledge!

I remember the match before this one a guy wanted to gamble him and Jesse decided not to show up.

There are 10 guys in the USA I would bet on over Bowman at this point. If Jesse wants action from most of them all he likely has to do is ask.

As good as you might think Jesse is most of the people in the Action room were wanting Sky in this match. If they played again getting an even bet against Jesse would be like pulling teeth over there.

It is not one match and one tournament loss, it is the fact that is all I have seen him do whatsoever in the last 5+ years in pro pool.

I have been a fan of Jesse's (seemingly effortless) barbox game for years. He is a father now, has the business, and doesn't play like he used to. He is still a beast on the bar tables, but I have to unfortunately agree to this.

Wrong...it is NOT just one match that I believe Celtic is basing this off of. I was about 30 minutes from driving to NW Iowa for a different match that Jesse backed out of (for whatever reason). He is still really good...but not in the top 10 imo as well.

You say line em up. How about this. We pick the 10 guys and put a small amount of cheese on it...say $1k per player in the same format they just did with a race to 100. Let's see where the dust settles after these ten matches. I will give you a hint...a few guys picked will NOT be names you are familiar with from the US.

Like I said I have always rooted for Jesse being from Iowa, but life happens and games eventually decline. It's unavoidable, but some decline quicker than others. Please note I am not saying he still isn't a beast on the table. I will get to see him in action this weekend in the one pocket, possibly 9 ball if he plays it. I am looking forward to it.
 
It is great to see young Sky playing so well. I was born and raised in a little town close to where Sky is from, years ago all the towns had pool rooms, but most bit the dust. I agree with Ken, all these young players are the future of pool, so far, most of them seem like they will promote the game well. I hope the game will have enough money in it, so these guys can make a living at it, and bring pool back to the top, where it belongs.
 
I seem to remember a guy named John MORRA beating Jesse pretty bad once. I would like to see Sky and John play some.
Someone make that happen.

John Morra and Jason Klatt both play sporty on a barbox. Although, Jason isn't from the US, I bet he'd come down for some action.
 
How about Justin Bergman and Sky? I don't think anyone is the U.S. other than Shane would be much of a favorite over Justin.
 
Now I know why Jesse didn't show for the SVB match. He's a great player but nowhere near SVB caliber. Then again neither is anybody else on earth:D
 
Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Jesse have the lead for most of day 1 and then Sky came back to make it 50-49? Did Jesse play terrible the second day or did Sky just hit a huge gear?

Now if Jesse isn't playing much, then it is pretty easy to assume he wouldn't have the endurance to play his best for an entire race to 100 over two days.
 
Jesse missed too many easy shots in day two and Sky punished him for them. I think Sky missed one easy shot the whole match. That fast & loose stuff catches up to you when you're playin' monsters.
