Sky vs. Jesse

I've been saying for years that Jeremy Jones is the best commentator there is IMO. His color commentary perhaps isn't quite as good as some in terms of excitement level or good stories and such, but his insights and knowledge based commentary surpass them all and it is even more true and noticeable in games like one pocket.

FYI - Color commentary IS insights and knowledge.....and yes you are guaranteed to learn something listening to JJ.

Chris, I know Skyler has not been around long, and was wondering if you two had ever played, and if not how do you think you two would play on a neutral table, would one of you get any games on the wire or play even.

Sky is a great player but what has Jesse Bowman done in pool, barbox or otherwise in the last few years?

I have never seen him enter the US Bar Box championships, in Vegas at the BCA and VNEA I saw people like Jason Kirkwood and Justin Bergman play and dominate some fields, but Bowman? He has been a name from the past for years now, the mythical supposed top bar box player in the land who never plays anymore. He entered the $2000 added event, and was fairly average at best, losing badly to Sky in that event as well.

This match simply outlined the truth that unless a person stays in action and competes on a regular basis they lose a step and people eventually catch up and surpass them.

I doubt Bowman is top 10 on the barbox in the USA anymore.

I don't know about all that.... Jesse is a bonified monster. Two guys played some 9 ball and one of them lost. Did you ever play below your speed on a given day? Everybody has and this may have just been a subpar showing for him. There was a whole lotta things about him that impressed the hell outta me, but he does play a little to carefree for me.

you said it El Nino,i have always thought he was one of the best in the coutry on a bar box,but he is a little out of the circle anymore and also if he played that great why not go to the US bar table championships, but maybe he would lose action if he won,who knows. I only watched the last 30 games or so and i wasnt impressed,he made several stupid mistakes, and acted like if he didnt get perfect shape he didnt care to try and work the rack out. He played too fast and free for me,i couldnt bet on him,he gives away to many key outs in that match. Hell i always think that players are dumping when i see that shit, and if he thought he could get bigger action, maybe he would dump, who knows the mind of a pool hustler. I have know plenty of guys who have dumped for bigger action or even dumped their backer for a sure win. Pool players are usually not the most honest of characters obviously. What little i saw, he just acted like he didnt care, he should have slowed down and worked out some of those outs. That last 7 ball had some angle on it and he could have gone forward and got a decent shot on the 8 ball and was out and he tries to superstroke a draw shot and go 3 rails behind the eight when at the very least he could have rolled forward 2 feet and taken a harder shot on the 8 and still been out. maybe its the difference between a valley and a diamond, who knows.

His bar table game is a lot better than his 9 ft game

What makes you think his bar table game is better? Last week most thought he couldn't beat Jesse and this week his Big table game is not as good. Some guy wrote last week that there were 20 better players than Sky and still waiting to find out who they are and if they want to play for money..... I am SURE Sky will play anyone that wants to challenge him on Big table. The only way to settle something is put your money up and decide where and let the game begin. Sky will win some matches and lose some matches and that the way the game is played. I can promise you though he will not lay down and he is not scared of anybody.

He must not have heard of SVB then? The same reason Jesse chickened out..... SVB is unstopable.

I think he has heard of him. No doubt you are another one of the wise guys on AZ billiards. I remember him playing SVB in the Bar Box this year and they ran the 1st 10 racks and nobody missed a shot an finally Sky missed a shot and it was over. Thats why SVB is the best in the world. Everybody looks for the best GAME and not the best players if you can understand that. Bottom line is Sky is not scared to play the best and get beat and learn from the best. Still looking for the other 19 better players than Sky. Just remember nobody is unstopable. Every dog has its day.....

They better start makin' some pretty bad dogs cuz SVB is like Zeuss with a cue in his hand:grin:

I remember dogging it and not buying him in one of the big tournies at Shooters in Olathe in 2012 I think it was. Saw him play a couple years before that and he has came a long way, and stayed on a good path. As for there being better players, there will always be a better player out there until you reach a point like Shane, and even then nothing is a lock. Just for the sake of saying, I'm sure there are more than a few American players that might be the favorite playing him. Not that anyone couldn't beat anyone on a given day but there's a tough field out ther....Shane, Corey, Earl, Archer, Dechaine, Rodney Morris, Justin Hall, Bartram, Frost, Bergman, Joey Gray, Oscar, Hatch, Jeremy Sossei, Rob Saez, Branden Shuff, Stevie Moore, Donny Mills, Jesse Engle, Chip Compron, James Roberts... Not saying all those guys are gonna win everytime but that's just a few good American players. Throw guys like Morra, Klatt, Alex, Parica, Mika and a few others that are around a lot and the list goes on. In any event, Skylar is for sure an up and coming player that should reach a very high potential.

Nice post...After seeing all these names it just reminds me how many good players we have. One thing I enjoy about pool is always the discussion of who can beat who. All of these guys can probably beat each other on a given day and I agree that SVB has put some distance between himself and the field. Its just nice we have AZ Billiards forum to discuss and have opinions. Probably not hard to figure out I am a SKY fan but also a big pool fan and love to watch the best play. Looking forward to more Fight Nights and tournaments in the future.

The only person on that list he should run from is Shane

I want to premise this with that I am a HUGE SVB fan. I watch so many of his Videos, I feel that I know him.

In watching the CSI USBTC Sky knocked SVB out of the 8-Ball tournament. I have seen multiply interviews were SVB states his best game is 8 Ball on a bar box.

Which reiterates the point stated above on any given day...

With that being said I would bet vital Body Part ( because that all I have ;-) ) SVB against anyone ( except for Earl on a 10 Footer ) in longer sets 50+

Would Sky like to play Oscar D some bar table 8 ball?
