Slippery linen mishap

Yesterday I was using a bridge to take an easy shot. I made the shot but my new Carmeli slipped out of my hand, shot across the rail, and bounced off the floor. I had chest pains until I saw that it was OK.

I realize that dings are going to happen as I am using it as a player. Is there anything I can do to make the linen less slick until it wears in? I had leather on my old D10 and it was fine, never any problems. Is leather less slick than linen?

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Wash your hands before you play. Dry them.

The residual dampness of your skin will help you plus it's free.

Have leather put on this one. Linen isn't for everyone. It's for the "death grippers"

I can't stand it. Leather is much better.

Get some wax paper and rub the linen with a piece of it. The slight sticky lasts for a few hours.

Linen slip fix

Get a candle, or best yet use bees wax... Swipe the candle or bees wax across the wrap with light pressure and rotate the cue as you go. Maybe 10 up and downs to go all around the cue. Next take a piece of wax paper and wrap it around the cue, grip fairly tight and rotate the cue as you work the wax in, rotating the cue.

This should give you just a slight tackiness and helps seal the wrap.

Interesting. I will give these ideas a try thanks.

Why does this read like the beginnings of these: http://textastrophe.com

The cue slipping out of your hand while using the bridge had little to do with the linen.

I have a very smooth irish linen double pressed wrap, many people mistake it for leather it's so smooth. Never had it slide away from me like that. You need to have some grip on the thing to shoot, sounds like you just threw the cue at the ball. I'm betting you just had a VERY loose grip this time.

I have the same kind of wrap on my Dishaw. I've never had a cue with an Irish linen wrap that felt too smooth/slippery to me. I've had linen on almost all the cues I've owned and the Dishaw originally had leather. Didn't care for it.

Yep I use a loose grip

I bought my first cue with a linen wrap, figuring that "with wrap" must be better than without. But I never felt like I had a good grip on the cue.

One day I played with a house cue, wrapless. It was great. Next day I ordered a Sneaky Pete from OB Cues. Couldn't be happier.
