smoke situation?

I'm hoping to make it down for a few days this year for the first time. From what I've read in the past, though, you could hardly see 2 feet in the action rooms from all the smoke. But the tourney rooms are non-smoking?

So what's the story? In general, about how much can you avoid it and how much would you have to just put up with? I'm a night owl what likes his lager, but smoke I can do without.

Smoke will not be an issue. Last yr was my 1st time and you could only smoke in the bar or outside. From what I understand, it used to be like Vegas during the BCA where the hallway was atrocious and looked like they had a fog machine going.

Louisville just passed a smoking ban in all public places so people will not even be able to smoke in the bar this yr... all smoking will be outside.

Great news, Timberly. No excuse now. I grew up with puffing parents and smoky bars, but I've done my time. Now if my wife will only take that long weekend trip to London that she desperately needs for her mental health!

Yes the action room is supposed to be non-smoking in accordance with the law, but last year the smoking ban was thoroughly ignored in the action room...at least when I was there. Maybe enforcement this year will be more stringent.

Smoke there is a massive issue!

I was better in 2006 than in 2004 but it is still way terrible. No ventilation and crowded!

There was smoking in the action room but nothing like it could've been. They has security guards walking around looking for it and I remember the cops came in a time or two doing a sweep. IIRC, there was a $500 fine for smoking.

I recall seeing some smoking in the action room but not that much. Most people went to the bar, which conveniently was right next to the action room. People weren't standing in the hallways like they do in Vegas and there will be even less this yr than last yr due to the new smoking ban. ;)

Bummer to hear that, Corey. If the law has just passed, there surely will be plenty of defiance until the city, county or state gets involved and hands down some serious fines. It happened that way in NYC. First there were warnings, then, I think, the first two offenses were cheap fines, but the third was an ass-kicker, something like $1,000 and a suspension or loss of liquor license, and then everybody got religion in a hurry.

Still, I'll bet to this day they're still smokin away in Bay Ridge, where I used to live. Plenty of macho cops and firemen down there, along with a few wiseguys, and you don't want to argue with them, I tell ya.

Just some insight on the smoking ban. There is a no smoking ban in public places but it won't take effect until june due to the appeals process in the city goverbment right now. So you will probably be able to smoke in the action room but not the tournament room.

I thought some sort of ban was already in place because I saw signs infront of the action room that said no smoking due to some ordinance or the like. I also saw cops walking around, but they weren't hasseling anyone about smoking.

there was but they are fighting it again so it will not be inforced until middle of next year

The Executive West said they would be enforcing the non smoking policy everywhere , but the bar area.

I don't mean to be rude my disagreeing but I was there too...am a non-smoker and there was virtually no smoking...except where allowed in the bar. There was ZERO in the tournament rooms.

Jim
