Smokers on time question ?

I know some of you guys have non-smoking rooms and since penna just passed their new smoking law, although they are still trying to figure out you will be allowed to allow smoking and who wont.
Im trying to get ready for the problems, Question is what do you do with a players time while they step outside to smoke?
Do you stop pause them or do you keep the clock running? Im thinking its not my faullt they need to smoke, and I don`t need to stop their time every 10 minutes.
How do you owners handle this one?

We still have smoking here in FLA but, I do have the occasional regular who goes for a ride around the block, wink, wink, nod, nod. They usually ask me to stop the clock and leave their cues laying flat on the table I baby sit them as well.
I guess you should leave it up to the customer, if they are smart enough to ask you to stop the clock, do so. If not, let it run.

I say leave the meter running, it shouldn't take that long for them to smoke, besides it may help encourage them to stop smoking. I know it would be easier for me to give up smoking than it would be for to give up pool.

Question

Do you stop their time if they go to the bathroom?
Do you stop their time if they read a newspaper?
Do you stop their time if they sit down to eat?


Do you charge extra for someone that plays fast and charge less for a slower player?
There is an endless list of excuses that players will use to get a lower bill, regardless if it has any merit. I would say only charge less for those players that you personally got addicted to nicotine. Anyone else...same price.

As long as you charge everyone, and treat everyone equally it will keep the whining down to a minimum.

This is an easy one. They are renting the table until the balls come back to the counter. While they are smoking, you can't rent that table to someone else.

If I rented a moving van for 24 hours and then expect to get a break on the price because I only drove it for a few hours while I had it, I'd probably get laughed out the door at Hertz.

The point is they're renting the equipment. Regardless of what they do with the equipment while they have it, they owe for the time they are renting it. Period.

What you're doing is a courtesy; however, you don't owe anyone breaks for what they choose to do while they are renting your equipment.

Mickey, smoking is a choice, just like chosing to text message or talk on a cellphone when your renting a table, and how many times a day do you see that. I keep the time running, my room has been no smoking for three years since I opened and no one has ever complained.

Not a room owner but the rooms that I go to keep the clock running unless the people come up and ask to turn it of while they step outside. I have seen one place at first refuse to turn the table off while they stepped out for the first month or two CT went nonsmoking and they almost had to shut the doors because they lost so much business.

Customer: hey we're gonna go smoke, stop our time till we get back will ya?

Rob: Well sssuuure, pardner! Go ahead and bring the balls back up here and cash out so I can make the table available to other paying patrons. If the table is still available when you're done smoking then we'll get ya right back on there again.

Bottom line, anytime one of Rob's tables is not available to someone willing to pay for it, it's not free. If it's not free, someone needs to be paying for it.

Second bottom line, Rob just now found out he LOVES to refer to himself in the third person. Rob thinks that makes him sound really cool. Rob's gonna try to do that a lot more now.

Hey, spw! I came through your place when I was processing in at Raytheon before coming to Iraq... A pretty nice place and there was one or two good shooters when I was in there. I like the whole second floor thing you got going on.. Narrow stairway to get to the second floor..

EXACTLY how a real poool hall is supposed to be set up!

Some nice historic tournaments photos too, if I remember correctly?

The Narrow Stairway to the second floor that must have been the back stairway that leads to another Club we have on the First Floor because the Main Entrance is Huge with elavator and a 2 Giant canvas Paintings worth over $3000 Each by Vaulter Moralis and one is over two Stories High 10ft wide the other is 10ft High and about 25ft wide.
