I nearly ditched my 314/2 'til I gently buffed it with a Q-Wiz. The green side at first for a really rough shaft, then buff it out with the much less abrasive, or nearly non abrasive tan logo side. I only dragged the green side maybe ten or so times and the shaft lost all of its graininess and made an astounding difference.
They say it doesn't remove wood, but yes, it definitely does with the green side. The green turns white with wood dust.
However, once I got it initially smooth, I've never used the green side ever again. The tan side pulled down the shaft leaves dark blue streaks on the tan. It's merely taking off the chalk residue, light soil, etc...
Best five bucks I ever spent to save a $237 shaft and I'm super sensitive to any drag or chalk particles on the shaft..
