Well i placed first in my first tourney out here and then a 5/6 in my 2nd one, tonight i played a tourney with some good players in it like Bobby Emmons and Scott Frost.I went undefeated again and was in the hot seat and Scott Frost came from the losers side.It was late so we decided to chop it,i have to say i was happy to do that with him after watching his last match,he could spot the devil the 5 im thinking. The guy who he beat to get to the finals with me was pissed that i chopped and said it was a bittch move because as soon as Scott beat him Scott asked me if i would like to chop and i said sure.I almost reacted to the guy and im glad i just packed up my cues instead of breaking one on his head,he apologized but regardless it seemed it was sour grapes after getting drilled by Scott.Im just happy to be playing well and giving it my best game. :) Do you guys think its wrong to chop if its a weekday and late and you both want to get on your way?

It's never wrong to chop if that's what you want to do.

Hell , in two of the last three poker tourneys I was in I had 3x the number of chips as the next highest guy and chopped at nine players in both of the tournies. Some would call that stupid, but it's not really when you consider that they were speed tourneys and the blinds were going up astronomically and while I could've held out without playing any hands till about third or fourth place, That would've given me less than I got by chopping it and I was able to go play some pool without killing another two hours on the poker table.

So don't feel bad about chopping it.

I don't think there is anything wrong with chopping....unless there is a crowd that paid to watch. I don't see any problem in your situation. I am sure you guys were tired and Mr. Frost probably had to wake up early for work.

"Mr. Frost" has a job???? :D

the above quote is spot on.... if there is a paid crowd or a some type of high profile event .. then sure play it out.

a weekday tourney at the local spot .... ehhh not so much!

one caveat ... if it EVER comes to final regardless of the event and I get Frost ..... CHOP CHOP !! :D

Wow Lenny, you're just winning everything. I might have to start playing in these things.

You have to watch out for him.You work on Sunday too!

I try to do this on weekdays every chance I get....every now and then the guy won't chop, so I beat him 3-0 and make him wish he would have.

But I have to be at work by 6:00am, so staying out past midnight during the week is suicide.

Yeah i remember playing a poker tourney with 150 players, first was about $6000 and second was around $3000.It gets to heads up and i ask the guy to chop and we can just play for the trophy and bracelet,he says no even though he says he knows im the better player.Everytime he would look at his cards he would make a weird motion to muck but keep them and then raise,no matter what i had i reraised and he would fold,i took away 3/4 of his chips like that,he was toast pretty quick, easiest heads up i have ever played. His decision not to chop cost him like $1500. :D

Poker Tournament, this is a Pool Forum..

Good job on the tourney! If you don't mind me asking who was it that Scott beat to get back to you? PM me if you don't want to post it on here. If you did play Scott what weight did he have to give you? The 7 or the 6?

I usually offer to chop in tournaments as well. I figure over my career I will win about half and lose about half, so I will be close to even on the money. Plus it's usually late and I normally have to work the next day. Also, the tournaments I play usually make you pay quarters, so I save that little bit of money too.

Yeah i agree,i have played in tourneys where it has went to 2am on a weekday, thats a rough deal, especially when you have to drive home and wind down after the highs of a tournament win. :)

Chop Suey

When I make the finals in locals I usually offer one of two options as an alternative....chopping or playing for all of it in a little longer race. There is usually only 40 or 50 between 1st and 2nd so there isn't a lot of sacrifice either way.

I don't see a problem at all with chopping up and I have never had anyone say anything about it. If they would have played better they would have had the same option.
