Snapping cues

I know a guy who missed a shot and tried to break his cue with his face! He had a nice swollen nose. No damage to the cue, though.

I read this a long time ago on RSB and I literally had beer coming out of my nose as I was reading it because I couldn't stop laughing. I have no personal knowledge of this event, so take it for what it's worth.

A guy missed a fairly easy shot, after league play, with no money on the outcome of the game. He jammed his stick into a pocket and grabbed the shaft and destroyed the stick. He then went outside and proceeded to break his case into many small pieces against the corner of the building. Someone who witnessed the event went back to the same hall a few days later and asked the doorman if the stick killer had been back, the doorman told him, "No, he usually stays away for a few weeks after he breaks a stick"

I think we can all agree that it's a stupid, childish thing to do, but that doesn't mean it can't still be funny after the fact.

I've often wondered why I'm sometimes consumed with a need to demonstrate to everyone around me just how angry I am with the outcome of a shot. It doesn't change the outcome. It's not likely that my opponent is going to feel sorry for me and let me win. It doesn't impress those watching with my maturity and composure. Yet, the urge to act out doesn't go away just because I realize those points. I assume it's a combo of pride and embarresment.

Ray Martin: Once you learn to handle that cue ball and pocket balls then it's all up here (points to his head). More so now than what it is before. It's mental. Depends on your personality too. Some guys can't handle it. Some guys will make the effort and will say "I'm going to conquer this". That's all your individual personality. That's why there is only a handful of champions. The other guy blows up and throws his cue stick across the room, says the hell with this, bangs on something. That guy's never gonna make it. He can't handle it.

You gotta learn to take your mistakes. So I went of the balls bad, so I wound up down at the end of the table. Shoot the next one and get back in line. It's the mental aspect.

It's at the end of this video.

I am not sure you are understanding what I am saying. At this time I cannot figure out another way to say it so I will just go now. :)

Bval I understand 100% what ur saying and how u see my post as a third person, I know ur not saying my teammate is classless kinda, but his breaking of the cue was, but I have learned not to pass judgement on heat of the moment actions like these that dont involve harming anyone.

Snapping Cue

I played a guy around 25 years ago who had an expensive Palmer and thought he was a great player. I beat him 17 games in a row for 5.00 per game. He got so mad he took his Palmer and shattered it on a rail completely destroying this beautiful cue. He never picked up a cue for 2 years. Although I only won 85.00 it was won of my best wins I ever had since I mentally broke him down completely. What a wonderful game this is!!!

I am not passing judgement on him as a person. His actions at that time was without class imo. The behavior does not make the person. I have done things that were not "a class move" but that does not make me a bad person either. What I have done is learned from those moves or mistakes so I don't repeat them again. I think we are actually trying to say the same thing.

I beat a room owner in Johnson City TN once. He snapped his Joss. He then went home and got another one. When he'd had enough, he started to break that one. He then, put it down, picked up a house cue, walked outside, and shattered that one. He was done.

On the other hand, I have thrown mine like a spear once. It was 11-11 going to fifteen for $1500. I had come from behind to tie it up. I broke and scratched. He ran out. Then, three in a row on the break. It wasn't pretty. Yes, it was 3:00 in the morning and alcohol was involved.

I'm repairing a nice older McDermott for a guy right now. "It just broke." The shaft was split at the collar. I built a new shaft and rolled it with the butt to make sure it rolled straight. It almost hopped off the table. The pin was bent too. He must have given it a really good whack on something. More money for me;)

I have never broken a cue... I have seen a few broken cues. I have seen a few "thrown" golf clubs.

Saw the remnants (in the parking lot) of a guy that had just lost a set and proceded to walk into the parking lot and shatter repetativly a $1200 Schon cue on one of the parking blocks... He then proceded to take any pieces that were larger than a tooth pick and chuck them on the roof of the building.

I have seen a few butt cap chips go flying when someone slams bangs thier cue on the floor after missing a shot.

I have never thrown or broke a cue / ball / etc...but I have actually thrown 1 (golf club) in my life..(my putter)...However my direction sucked as bad as my putting that day and it ended up about 50 feet up stuck in a tree. (Good thing I had spikes on to climb the tree)

The best was a driver that got chucked...The guy hooked a ball real bad for about the 3rd time in a row...He was getting ready to throw the driver out into a desert area away from the cart path and in the opposite direction of the hole...He pulled it back at the last second and then turned himself and threw it about 50 yards (right down the cart path)...so he would not have to walk after it...

I told him...Cmon man...You can't pump fake the club chuck ...If you going to chuck it.....chuck it.....Another guy in the group called out that "premeditated club chucking" is a two stroke penalty... :)

I've seen many strong players break their cues in frustration. It's normally not due to one shot or one game, but a collective frustration of their performance in a match or tournament. I agree that it shows weakness in the mental game, but it does not mean that a player cannot make it. I personally have never broken a cue, but I can tell you that there have been matches that I wanted to. It's learning to play through the frustration and get back mentally in the game, match, etc, that makes a champion.

How old is this clown? Maybe he needs to get laid. Bottom line, you gotta respect the equipment. I have never seen a player snap a cue. I have seen attention craving bangers do it though.

Well first off he aint no clown he is a friend of mine! second I wouldnt mind getting laid myself! He is a very strong player, last week he had 3 ero's in a row on a bar box out of 5 games in league.

I can relate to someone wanting to break his or her cue. I have on numerous occasions wanted to shred mine. I was Done! Done! Done!

It lasted until the next morning.

One of the things that holds me back is when I broke a toy out of frustration as a child, immediately I realized how stupid it was. No one was going to buy me a new one and it hurt no one but me. Sad story isn't it. :)

Serval years ago in San Diego in a bar, my friend Gus was gambling with this guy, who by the way asked Gus to gamble, so Gus is running out case game...So this guy picked up a house cue and cracked it over Gus's head. The cue snapped in half and the butt part lands on the table. Gus picks it up and starts beating the crap out of this guy with it and chases him and his buddy down the street... You had to be there but that was funnny...

If any player on my team snapped a cue he'd be looking for a new team to play on. End of story.

Pool is a game of control, if you can't control yourself, how can you control a cueball.
