Working on these in conjunction with Bell Forest Products. Thought I'd post some pics. They will be available soon, not sure of the exact cost or wood combinations just yet.

This first batch is bacote spliced into birdseye or curly maple. Points on the oversized blanks are 11 1/2" to 12" long. I've attached a pic for comparison to other blanks that are available.

Thanks

Mark

The middle birdseye bocote blank looks totally outrageous! Bocote is a terrific cue wood. Martin

To clarify, I spoke to Mark:

The top two blanks are his; the bottom (ebony) blank is from another source and is shown for comparison.

Mark's points are sharper at base and longer. I like 'em. They'll be available from Bell Forest directly; not through Mark.

If you do some in a nice dark straighter grained Tulip/BEM...I would most definitely be interested!!!!

Very good looking blanks. The first thing I noticed was the long and sharper points. If the price of these blanks could be held, even remotely close to Schmelkes, you will have no trouble selling all you can make. I know that it would be nearly impossible to compete with Schmelke on price though. Their equipment for making full splice is set up for speed and they have a large inventory of wood and no middle man so they would be at an advantage in the price end of the equation.

Good luck

How much longer are the points once the blanks are cut down? It looks like you are comparing oversized blanks to a finish size cue already equipped with a joint pin. How about glue gaps along the edges of the points, got any? Great looking blanks in the pic. I don't mean to grill, just asking questions on common expectations when dealing with sneaky blanks.

If the blanks can hold the sharp bottom points like what's on the Bocote/Cordia, these puppies are going to get real popular real quick.

The points will be subsantially longer than the "norm". I can't give you an exact measurement on how long the finished points will be because that would depend upon several factors. Taper being one. Also these blanks are 32"-35" long. So depending on which end you cut from it will have a direct effect on how long the points will be. Cut from the joint end they will be shorter because it will move the points closer to the joint. Cut from the butt, a little longer. Yes I was comparing the length of points to a somewhat finished size blank...because that's all I had. These points are 11 1/2"-12" long in an oversize blank. I have no idea how long they are in an oversize blank made by someone else. I like to make my blanks longer to allow for some flexibility in balance and overall weight.

Glue lines? No

Like I said before, I don't know about prices yet but this isn't an attempt to compete with anyone who currently makes SP blanks. It's something different: longer points, sharper splice and a longer overall blank for flexibility. Something I've been working on for a while but had a hard time finding the right wood dimensions to consistently pull it off. Thanks to Boone at Bell Forest I can. And share with other makers.
