Contemplating getting a sneaky. I ask the board for your opions. Scruggs, White, Bluegrass, Tad, Motty, etc. Who in your opion makes the best playing cue.

Thanks
Glen

I also would say frey, basically the same as scruggs for less money. I would also lean towards murrell or m.stacey. Murrell cues hit really nice. Good luck...

Here's a simple little sentence that can either take you far in life, or will be completely worthless to you...
What's the best flavor ice cream in the world???
Good luck.

Bluegrass...if you like a Southwest taper and feel. Stacey for balance and feel plus very well priced and easy to get (IndyQ). Good Luck!

Bob Frey

Wood to wood piloted joint-true sneaky with a 9 inch tappper!
Hard to beat.

Bill Schick. Hands down... the best quality and best playing sneaky I've ever come across. But they are nearly impossible to find, and he doesn't make them anymore.

Don't buy what others like, buy what YOU like or you will suffer from buyer's regret. Play a numbers of builders cues and make up your own mind

Hi Glen I still have the ones in the photos including the Schick.
Talk to you later

My opinion

In my opinion it is very hard to beat the hit, balance, and fit and finish of a Cory Barnhart sneaky. My 2 cents...

Murray Tucker...but you can't get one of them either...oh wait...Tom/Tank138 has one of those too! :D

There is a very good reason why some of these cues, (Tucker, Schick) are difficult to obtain. They are/were produced in very limited numbers, and they play just that good...so much so that no one wants to part with them...or if they do, it's at a premium.

Lol, Dave...I might have to beg to differ with ya! Mine's so good, that it practically plays itself!! ;) :D

Boy Howdy yeah! The ice cream post really fits here. So, in the interest of adding to the confusion:

Excellent playing cues, IMHO. I think that fact that Keith does his own finger-spliced full splices contributes to their consistent playability. Definitely one of the most stand-out 'petes' on the planet! :D

I've looked at all the cues mentioned in this thread.. all seem to have joint rings.. Anyone know of a good sneaky that's more.. um.. sneaky?

The old Sruggs 'petes', many, had no joint collars. It is generally not advised that you break with a cue that has no joint collars...the joint collars add stability to that area. As a result, many of those early Scruggs 'petes' have a smaller joint pin than what is found on many of today's 'petes'...many of the cumakers, and players, favoring a larger joint pin...myself included. The larger joint pins do not generally lend themselves to a 'pete' with no joint collars.
