Sniper tips

It's it just me or are any others getting hard glazed tips after a while with there Snipers. I stopped using Moori Med for this reason. They were just too inconsistent. But I loved my first two Snipers. I have been miscueing a lot with this one and it seems to be needed a lot of attention like scuffing.

I had one recently that did that in the beginning. I almost changed it, then it started to get better. Thinking about trying a Kamui Soft.

Yup. I use nothing but Hercules med/hard extra deluxe. They are the same the day you put in on and the day you take it off. They are only around a buck a piece too. (if you install yourself)

have you been breaking with it as well?

Never! I have a Varney JB and if I am not using that for whatever reason I will grab a house cue to break.

The problem with that is in your statement. I don't like a harder tip. But yes they do play consistent.

I switched from Moori tips to Snipers and I haven't had any problems with glazed tips. I like the Sniper tips a lot and i've tried a lot of different tips over the years........

I was right there with you I thought Snipes were all the rage. But I am very unhappy with my last one.

I've only had one Sniper which is on my main OB-1 playing shaft. It's main plus point is that it has lasted very well. (Been on for over a year, no delamination problems etc. so far)

The downsides are it does tend to get a bit glazed with play and that it still after all this time tends to mushroom slightly over time.

It is also now noticeably softer than the Kamui Hard I usually use. When it finally wears out I will most likely replace it with a Kamui and not another Sniper.

I just had problems with mine. I might of picked some wax or polish off of some balls somewhere. I just scuffed the crab out of it and it is back to a nice consistent tip.

Same problem here. I started using Snipers about 3-4 years ago. The first couple I had I never had to do anything to them. They din't glaze or mushroom. Just played great for along time.

The last one I put on a couple months ago, I am having problem with glazing, miscues, frequent scuffing needed.

Maybe somethng has changed in the production process???

I could have done this too. I have a regular AZer I meet with once a month and we both use wax on our balls (you can only say that to another pool player  )

Sniper Tips

Depending on which cue I'm using at the time I have most if not all the tips mentioned in this thread on my cues and play with each tip frequently. Sniper is my favorite but, I too am having trouble with glazing and miscuing. I thought it was probably my fault at first but I noticed that it rarely occurs with the other tips. The glazing/miscuing starts happening when the tip gets over half worn out. Except for the miscues I still like the hit, feel, and feedback it gives. As long as I remember to keep it scuffed it performs well. Each time a new tip comes available I buy them and become more convinced that day in and day out the most predictable and all around best tip is a Triangle. Having the latest layered tip sure elevates ones status though especially if you get the first one even if you can't play a lick!

After years of layered tips, I've returned to le pro and elk master. Funny how it's come 'round full circle.

Oh, well, then use a mild dud. They are easy to make and I can coach you through it. I will even send you one. I made some out of Elk Masters, and I loved em. I like the feel of a solid and high performing tip that is crisp and clear. Milk duds are a bit soft, but they do perform well. They really don't mushroom too much either.

Interesting. However my previous Snipers almost never needed maintenance. I just like that softer/medium almost velvet like and feel of the tip when I first had them installed.

Funny you mentioned this because this was going to be my next tip option. I need to either start installing my own or find someone locally I trust to do it for me. I hate paying someone to do something I know I am capable of but lack the proper equipment!

I really like Snipers, but I'm going to try a Wizard tip next time. They are supposed to play like a Moori but half the price. I'll let you know how I like them.
